Moving on - Adam Barrett has opted to leave Millwall (Image: PA)

By Chris Phillips@cjphillips1982Chief sports reporter.

SOUTHEND United legend Adam Barrett has left his role with Millwall to 'pursue new career opportunities'.

Barrett had been coaching with the Lions since 2017.

But the ex Shrimpers defender has now opted to leave the Championship club.

Barrett told the Millwall website: “It has been an absolute pleasure and privilege to work at this club for nearly eight years.

“When I reflect on my time at Millwall, I leave proud and full of gratitude. I have been lucky enough to work with some fantastic players and staff across the entire club and can’t thank them enough, as well as the fans, for their support.

“We’ve experienced the joys of promotion from League One together to now being an established, competitive Championship side.

"I have learnt so much throughout, and now feel the time is right to pursue my aspiration of becoming a head coach or manager elsewhere.

“The club has been so supportive of my desire to step into management.

"It’s a role I have enjoyed twice in the interim at Millwall and that only fuelled my hunger further to take the next step in my career."

Millwall chairman James Berylson added: “I can’t thank Adam enough for everything he has done for the club over the past seven-and-a-half years.

“Adam has fulfilled a number of roles during that time and always conducted himself with the utmost professionalism. "

Ex Shrimpers striker Neil Harris resigned as Millwall's manager earlier this month.

Yep, wouldn't surprise me if he does when Kev does, eventually, go. He did apply for it a while back, with Tilson as his number 2.
Sounds good. Wonder why they didn't get it ? This is under the previous owner. I'm not unhappy with we've got by the way. I think they'll get there in the end.
