A possible twist on the fantasy league idea

Related to the other thread but relevant to SUFC because it concerns our division. I reckon a large number of people on this board would be interested in doing some sort of Coca-Cola championship football league. I've posted on the All LEagues thread on this how we could do it if we have someone who can put decent values on players in the league.

Does anyone reckon they could do proper valuations for all players in it liekly to be coveted by people selecting fantasy leagues?

It doesn't have to be amazingly accurate. In theory, anyone overpriced or underpriced will get snapped up or left out dependent on perception of their value but if everything is generally in place then people will have a decent selection of players to choose from. I reckon this could be something we could get going if there's enough support. I would do it personally but happily admit I don't know enough about the league to do it properly.

I would ask for this to be pinned but, in fairness, if it proves to be popular enough then it'll pin itself on the first page.

Just to condense, does anyone reckon they could get a reasonable player list to select from and assign values?

Good work getting that list together. Does sort of suggest maybe you are the man who never sleeps!!

As for valuations, this is probably the really tricky part. It would be too difificult to go through all the players valuing individually and then trying to create a budget retrospectively. I think this might take a more top down approach.

I'm thinking of getting information from a Premier league fantasy league and working out the total value of each team and then assigning it in some form of ranking system to where I reckon teams will come in the Championship. In fact, I may base it on Bookmakers' handicap odds to get a more balanced view on it. From there, each team can have a total squad value and allocate it between, say, twenty players.

If any of this sounds like a load of rubbish or anyone has any suggestions on how it could be done better, it would all be appreciated. Don't want to dive in feet first with something when there might be a better way round.

Also, right now, I have no idea how many people are interested in doing such a competition!

According to this, yes they do that for the Championship, however I couldn't actually find complete player listings for you.

Good idea, which i think could be tweaked a little, but i cant think of how as of yet.

Ill give it a bit more thought over the next week or so, or however long it takes me to get an idea together.

11 players.
65million
rating between
3-6million on a keeper.
3-6million on defenders.
5-9million on midfielders.
6-10million on forwards.

This might need a bit of tweaking.

Right, we're going to put this on ice just for a few days and have a think about how to do it. For pickledseal's (I think!) information, it was only going to be for the Championship. Doing the league's below would be far too much effort and the Premiership market is saturated with better ones.

If someone is heavily proficient at making a some sort of database that can calculate results for each player with an entry game for each week, that would be amazing. Think I can knock one together myself but my VBA's pretty simple.

Also gonna stick a poll up to try and guage interest. Frankly, I'd need at least fifteen or else I would feel I am wasting my time!

I do actually have quite a lot of confidence that I can get this thing together before the start of the season. Right now I'm not planning on making a prize available, largely due to the lack of time.

Don't mean to be harsh Fred but some of them prices are shocking. For example, £7million for DJ Campbell, £6million for Lawson, Jay Smith (Who, in theory, would be on the bench for most of the season, at £5.5million.

Just a hint fellas, how it usually works is that the best teams, your Leeds, Birminghams, West Broms, Cardiffs, Sunderlands have the more expensive players because in theory they will win more than they lose therefore getting more points as there will be more opportunities to score, assist, keep clean sheets etc. Whereas, you Col Ewes, Barnsleys, Southends, Burnleys etc would have the cheaper players as more likely to concede, lose more games, not score etc..

So, like the World Cup one with the Sun, they pick the best in order of the best in their opion to the worst, like this for example:

Then you work out their likely starting line up, and main threats. If we take Southend for example and the starting line up would be

Flavs would be worth £6 million as is first choice and will play more games and Collis is worth £3 million. In defence they will see Barrett has scored goals and rate him around the £5 - 6 million mark, whereas Spinner who wont play as much £3-4 million. In midfield, JCR and Gower are more likely to get points for assists and goals so they would be worth £6-7 million whereas Cole, Smith, Bradbury worth £4-5 million. Up front Eastwood and Ricketts will be the goal threat so they'd be worth £8-10 million depending on where you set your range. Lawson on the other hand would still be worth a few quid as he could come on and get goals so would be placed at around £6 million.

This would work down to Wolves:
1st Choice Goalkeeper - £4 million
2nd Choice Goalkeeper - £2.5million - £3million.
Back four - £3-4.5 million
Back up back four - £1.5-3 million
Midfield four - £4 - 5 million
Back up midfield - £3 - 4 million
Front two - £4 - 5.5 million
Sub Strikers - £3-4 million.
