A child friendly board ?

As it has been pointed out, we try to keep on top of personal abuse and porno stuff , but if people want a mass debate on swearing there is little we can do without impinging(?) on Freedom of Speech and as everyone knows, our members have rights.
We don't want to lose any members , but as people have said pictures put on here are nothing worse than seen in a daily paper, so I would ask members not to be rash in any decisions they may make.

10/10 for spelling Ken.:D

Not easy to keep an eye on what websites the kids of that age are using. My daughter just hides her screen if I peer over her shoulder. More cos she is on MSN than anything else. There has to be some trust though especially when they are around 16. And to be honest if they are just browsing the pub on shrimperzone I would suggest thats fine judging by what some of the kids of around that age are up to.

You would be surprised what kids know at a young age (or what they think they know) on some subjects. Its more a case of dont repeat it because to not hear it or see it is just an impossible task for some things given the internet and the current world we live in.

And any warning will just say "confirm you are over 18 to enter - yes or no".....take your pick whether you are or not.

Ideally you would just block the pub part but not sure if you can do that.

I think it's great how child friendly this board has become recently ? - NOT ! :( :(:( -

I have no problem with the **** thread and scantily clad women and would willingly participate in the right circumstances but just about every other board I'm a member on has such things either strongly moderated or in a properly verified adult only member board. Discuss.

PS - I guess some of you don't have 9 and 11 year old kids that like to trawl the net. I can control their access with an adult nanny. Much more of some of the recent stuff and I'll be adding this site to it manually. Mike and Porkies board may have had nowhere as many members but at least it was policed correctly.

Slighty unfair Tone ..we all do "Police" the board but allow freedom of speech. A few posts you perhaps don't see are removed, some instantly.
We do not tolerate abuse to other members but trust those that post on here to have the sense when to draw the line. The Pub is like a normal pub, I don't think anything gets to the stage of Porno, we don't even allow topless pictures.

Take a chill Pill.

:)

I would like to know where this parental stuff is in IE, as it will save people paying out for 3rd party add-ons such as NetNanny and Cyberpatrol.

Tony you could always inform the NetNanny company and get them to add SZ.com as a site with profanity, that way you can ensure that others who have set their system to block on profanity will also be covered.

At the end of the day they way you bring up your children is down to you and not what anyone else thinks. Just because some feel it is fine kids to hear and use swearing, does not mean you have to conform to that point of view.

You have GOT to be kidding me! You think kids live in a bubble? MTV videos are far more pornographic than some celeb lounging around in her bra & pants.... I had the misfortune to watch a hip-hop video where oral sex was HEAVILY simulated, at this was at 9am!

Besides if kids are looking for porn, you'd think they'd stop on Shrimperzone? 80% of the internet is porn and a simple phrase in a search engine will bring you some far harder images.

I'd be more concerned if any kids of mine where looking at "Face of Death" websites rather looking at sex which (between consenting adults of EITHER SEX) is a natural part of human nature and to be curious is part of growing into an adult.
No sir, I tell no jokes. Sure if kids want porn they wont come on here, I didn't say they would. I'm saying that kids that don't want to look for porn shouldn't have to look away from all the sexually orientated threads in the pub. Not all kids like to drool over women you know.

At the end of the day, this board doesnt have that many members under 16. Any children around or under that age should be have their parents monitoring what they look at on the internet. I know I would if I had kids of that age.
Why not force the rest out then :p

It's called the pub, since when would children be allowed in the pub anyway?
Very good point SBH.

Maybe a new name is in order? Or a block on this for those under 18? afterall, SBH thinks its a pub.

p.s. You may have realised im in an awful mood.

Haha, Cricko enters the scene with that picture :D

just because someone started a thread about a swear word? or because there was a thread in which women in bikinis were shown? I'm under 18 and to think that i would get banned from the use of a generally tame forumis just ridiculous. I see a problem for youngsters and perhaps there could be a 18+ rating placed on threads as a warning for those who are offended by such words/images but to ban it because not everyone enjoys it is just wrong

Sorry Josh, I heard there was a ban in order for pubs, no under 18's was it? oh and no smoking please.

1) 16 is the minimum age in pubs, unnaccompanied by an adult
2) It is not an actual pub
3) I dont smoke
:p :finger:

Age has nothing to do with finding something offensive.
Personally I do not use "****" or the actual word itself. I'm pushing 52 (No, not an 'old fogey') and find it offensive, I complained to the Trust about the showing of "The Football Factory" on a coach as I couldn't get away from this diatribe of filth. OK I know they're hardly going to show CareBears but honestly, let's have some standards! My gf doesn't use the word either and to be honest I'd be horrified if she did.

How about establishing two different pub forums?

One forum could be those who drink session lagers and are happy to spend their time discussing the relative merits of women they will never sleep with, cars they will never drive and the etymology of certain four letter words.

The other forum would be family oriented with the online version of a Wacky Warehouse/Charlie Chalk fun factory and childrens menus that double up as colouring books.

For the record I am with ORM for the reason that certain words and phrases are just are not work friendly and I suspect a lot of us access SZ from work to break up the tedium of the day.
