A child friendly board ?

Still Loves Emma Bunton. Roy McDonough is God!
I think it's great how child friendly this board has become recently ? - NOT ! :( :(:( -

I have no problem with the **** thread and scantily clad women and would willingly participate in the right circumstances but just about every other board I'm a member on has such things either strongly moderated or in a properly verified adult only member board. Discuss.

PS - I guess some of you don't have 9 and 11 year old kids that like to trawl the net. I can control their access with an adult nanny. Much more of some of the recent stuff and I'll be adding this site to it manually. Mike and Porkies board may have had nowhere as many members but at least it was policed correctly.

Oh and if a picture of a woman with her hand provocatively in front of her nether regions is not a form of pornography then Matt Harrold is an international.

Get real mate!!!!!! if you don't like it you know where the door is! and this is coming from the bloke who things is sooooo funny to post pictures to relate to breaking news topics to fool people constantly!!!!

Taking your kids to a Southend game would be just as bad!!!

Sorry ORM, but nothing on this board is pornographic - you can see worse in The Sun and in mags like Nuts & Loaded.

As for the "swearing", well they hear it, and repeat it in the playground. I was sat with my mates kids on Saturday and the air was blue.

surely you could tell your kids that the pubs is a no go area, unfortunatly it is a forum and people will talk on here like they do in public. I can see where your coming from with 2 children of that age but theres no real way of stopping people from having adulty related conversations

I'm actually split on this. A lot of this stuff I look at at work (too much some would say) and it's a bit on the risky side.

I don't necessarily think there should be a kid's section but a warning would be nice.

That's all examples of pornography there by the way ;) .

I generally stay out of the pub for the reason of these threads (not these, but the 'adult' ones). It's not good for the youth who want to come on here, and should possibly be banned, in my honourable opinion.

You have GOT to be kidding me! You think kids live in a bubble? MTV videos are far more pornographic than some celeb lounging around in her bra & pants.... I had the misfortune to watch a hip-hop video where oral sex was HEAVILY simulated, at this was at 9am!

Besides if kids are looking for porn, you'd think they'd stop on Shrimperzone? 80% of the internet is porn and a simple phrase in a search engine will bring you some far harder images.

I'd be more concerned if any kids of mine where looking at "Face of Death" websites rather looking at sex which (between consenting adults of EITHER SEX) is a natural part of human nature and to be curious is part of growing into an adult.

The co-owners have an open mind on this. What specific examples would you cite?

I make Orm right we have too be very careful. Only this week my 9 year old learnt that the Beatles were better than The Clash off this very board.......it's not on really..........................

On a serious note, and not having kids myself, I say this from a somewhat blinkered viewpoint. Surely that's what the security and parental options are for in both Windows and IE, or whatever browser your using, no?

If you don't agree with the content of certain sites then every parent has the option to block that particular site from being viewed by their children. It's not rocket science and whilst I'll admit that doing so is not perhaps the best solution to the ills of the internet it must be the first port of call for any parent.

You can see and read far far worse on any social networking site such as Facebook, Bebo or MySpace. The discussions held here on SZ are mild in comparison to the vast majority of sites kids have access to.

I'd say that the threads in the pub can be a bit near the knuckle at times, but I don't feel that they've overstepped the mark at any time recently. Certainly don't have a problem with the other parts of the board.

ORM - can you block specific bits of websites through your filtering software, as that may be the answer. If they want to read about Southend then fine, if they try to get into the pub then no-can-do.

At the end of the day, this board doesnt have that many members under 16. Any children around or under that age should be have their parents monitoring what they look at on the internet. I know I would if I had kids of that age.

Lets face it, most people aged around the 16 mark prob wouldnt be too phased by anything on this board anyway, even in the pub. By the age of around 13 thesedays most kids already know all the swear words and have prob seen page 3, nuts magazine etc. We shouldnt be so naive as to think a poll of scantily clad women or a thread about the word **** would shock many of the younger posters on here!

The board is moderated and Im sure anything that was really below the mark would be removed instantly as they tend to do a good job on here.

The board has a wide ranging age of posters - Cricko obviously being the oldest at 188 but most of us enjoy the banter and have a good laugh as well as some good serious debates. I dont think there is too much concern for anyone whose kids might look on here. As long as the moderators continue to do the good job they do, and parents with young kids monitor the content of their viewing, then I dont think we have too much to worry about.

Orm, I can understand where you're coming from. I don't have kids yet but can see how this will be important to me in the future. All I can say is that you answer your own question as highlighted above.

Sounds like responsible parenting to me!

That sums it up for me.

I generally stay out of the pub for the reason of these threads (not these, but the 'adult' ones). It's not good for the youth who want to come on here...

It's called the pub, since when would children be allowed in the pub anyway?

...and should possibly be banned, in my honourable opinion.

As you say, you generally stay out. That works. If you're not old enough for the pub (which you'd have to say is fairly well policed anyway, with swear filters, and a generally well-regarded consensus of what's acceptable or otherwise) then don't come in.

And that would be humble opinion.
