I was at the game , and I think it was Ted McDougal (Malcolm Macdonald played for Newcastle)I remember we gave Malcolm MacDonald a load of stick during the game. The Away Club coach had a brick chucked at the window as we left their ground. Fortunately I missed the Leigh Coms fracas!
S.S was the guy who had his sheepskin slashed, a good mate of LCBB72.I was at the game , and I think it was Ted McDougal (Malcolm Macdonald played for Newcastle)
Someone near me had their sheepskin coat knifed during the game (it was a thick one and good job it was or they would have died no kidding)
Super,ac supermac you're a load of ******* C***
and lets have McDougal for dinner cos .........
were the chants
He did indeed, a great team, but I still remember all the "Rowley Out" chants - some things never change - you don't know what you've got until it's gone ! Some would be well to realise that now. What a fantastic team Arthur Rowley built at Southend .
We beat Aldershot 2-1 with Best and Garner scoreing for Southend .Last footnight !! maybe...but tonight,6 Sept 1972, we Super Blues played that other "Blues"...Southend v Chelsea..another night never to be forgotten.
IIRC,we were nearly as good as Chelsea, only being beaten 1-0.And CFC had a real good team.
The Pak/ North bank were FANtastic, one of the greatest ever nights standing there along with the Villa and QPR cup games.
I cannot remember who we beat to play CFC though
Of course it was Ted MacDougall, aged brain fog there. He went from Bournemouth to Man Utd I seem to remember. But those were the very chants I was alluding to. Thanks for correcting my error.I was at the game , and I think it was Ted McDougal (Malcolm Macdonald played for Newcastle)

The guy who had his sheepskin slashed was standing next to me . He said to me has someone gobbed on me 'he thought that someone had spat on him' . I told him someone had slashed him , with that he steamed back into the Bournmouth crew . He made the Bournmouth crew pay for it the following season in the famous garage scrap when he smashed at least five of them with a shovel . Standing in the North Bank for nearly 60 years he come in the top three of the top Southend boys . Even now he is one of the most respected guys around even at 70 those who know him will tell you he is still someone you would not tangle with .I was at the game , and I think it was Ted McDougal (Malcolm Macdonald played for Newcastle)

This prompted me to have a review of TM's career via https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ted_MacDougallOf course it was Ted MacDougall, aged brain fog there. He went from Bournemouth to Man Utd I seem to remember. But those were the very chants I was alluding to. Thanks for correcting my error.
I can concur. The last time I saw him was at Carl Cs wake in Dec 2017 at the Oakleigh (Then called Bellinis)in Leigh. He was still in great shape, looked about 50, and still had that presence. The guy who had his sheepskin slashed was standing next to me . Oh O.K. Thanks T.'Brush' was his nickname, his surname is Smith!.
That 1971/72 team would be more than capable of playing any team in the Premier League and Championship and give a good account of themselves .I hardly missed a game that season. Loved Spud Taylors cameo's late on in games, with his white boots! Looking at those amazing attendances, the sound from Roots Hall on a Friday night carried for miles. Billy Best was always my hero but had a huge soft spot for Terry Johnson, a proper winger. Can you imagine that team playing our current rabble it would be an a annihilation!
