5 Leagues?

Dont get the continental and international argument. Most of the teams in the football league arent the ones with players playing in those games anyway.

I do think not having midweek games isnt a bad thing in the bottom two tiers. Whilst playing under the floodlights is always a nice thing having only 27 away fans is always disappointing. Our attendances on a Tuesday night have often been well below the average. However would the increase in attendances make up for less games? Highly doubtful.

Even the slightest chance of B teams has to be squashed instantly. There will be 6 extra teams needed for that season and the options are 6 National League sides or B Sides. If its the latter then it would be a disgrace, but as the FL chairman pointed out, when this was put forward as an option before it was voted against so they dont sound to be particularly pushing that.

Surely the top 14 of League One will stay league One (with 6 from the Championship).

Teams wont be chosen, it will be where they finish.

How on earth would promotion work that year? Would teams even be able to be promoted to the league above?
Football now is all about the creation, maximisation and distribution of money. I can see clubs like Southend being shafted by new proposals. The European Superleague rears it's ugly head every now and then.

Apart from anything else, the last time they expanded the League (88 to 92 clubs) in 1950/51, it let in the likes of Colchester United !!

More Saturday games, eh.

Well, then, stop moving matches to Friday night, Monday night and Wednesday night so you can stick them on the telly!

I for one support our new overlords.

Personally, if it means bigger Conference sides coming in, great. If it means more chance of promotion great.

The only downside is the loss of revenue, but clubs will have to trim their squads and live within their means. The horrible midweek away journeys would mean more money to spend by the fans on other games anyway.

I actually think it could work, as well.

That would mean 80 sides in the bottom four divisions, so maybe combine the League Cup and JPT competition into one with 16 groups of 5 sides and then the winners going into the knockout stages.

This would mean you could regionalize this competition and be guaranteed say 4 home matches against local sides, midweek and then, if successful, you end up in the knockout stages.

That would help to replace the missing league fixtures revenue and streamline the two cup competitions into one.

The Premier League sides are then not bogged down by the League Cup, so might take the FA Cup more seriously.

I also think it would work to regionalize the bottom two divisions, so League 2 and the NL become League 2 S & N, as others have suggested.

That helps to structure the pyramid better and cut down on travelling.

This could be the thing that keeps them in the league this time round too

You'd think they'd regionalise the bottom two divisions to go some way towards making up for the loss of revenue. Weird that they haven't done so.
