2017 General Election thread

Correct, but people at the labour party cross that line and hide behind a claim of anti-Israel policy when it is very clear what they really mean.

As for the idiot KL. I suggest you read this:

Workers' Liberty

It's a very long article, but it clearly shows how his wording has morphed over the last two years or so. It also shows how poor his grasp of history is and how he is extremely selective in his interpretation. It also shows how anti-Semitic what he said was, and how anti-Semitic he's been in the past. He's far far worse than that buffoon Johnson

or read this:

http://www.shrimperzone.com/vb/showthread.php?85802-Jeremy-Corbyn/page246

about 50 pages dedicated to Ken Livingstone, the amount of time it takes to read it is about the equivalent of his two year suspension from the party.

General Election 2017 most asked question on the doorstep is bound to be 'what is your take on Ken Livingstone', bound to be, its the most burning issue of the year and is going to be the thing most on people's minds when they cast their vote

Definitely, and God forbid that Jimmy Kranky lookalike North of the border might get the chance to impose herself on us on TV as well!

TV debates involving the candidates is all far too American for me anyway. Had to endure it last time, and quite happy not to see it again.
From a voter's point of view, what's wrong with them?

See every leader and party explain their ideas and get their points across and help a lot of undecided voters to choose.

If you don't want to "endure" it then don't watch, but it doesn't mean they shouldn't be run.

Wasn't that because when the LP came to power in 1997, the government was close to already operating at a surplus?

Who was in power at that nasty peak in 2009-10?
I found numerous links I could post detailing the debt that the Tories have accumulated, this seems like a reasonable place to start as it's an independent source: Osborne accumulated more debt in 3 years of government that Labour did in 13

On the local issues both Southend seats are so Tory that my vote, which will NEVER be for Amiss is irrelevant; it needs for a strong, local opposition candidate to make the most of the NHS A&E issue as well as the education disparity.
Those in Castle Point or Basildon/Thurrock will be the interesting campaign grounds.

However this GE is likely to be solely for the purposes of EU issue so IMO it will be a cause of greater, wider, social disharmony.

Castle Point is a given for the tories. Apart from the 1997 blip you could put a donkey up in a blue rosette and it would win. Metcalf hasn't done bad in Basildon but the new thames crossing prefered route might put a dent in his majority even though he has expressed disappointment at the decission.

Labour should not stand in Southend West just to give the Lib Dems the best possible chance of beating Amiss. He was a rat for Basildon and should never had got the nod to stand in Southend. I also have reason to dislike him on a personnal level and would love to see him ousted by anyone.

I agree that debate should be better , however you will agree that debate so far has failed to be able to convince either side of the implications of racism in or around the Labour party.

If there are those of us that believe it does exist in the Labour party, (I cited Diane abbot earlier who has made racist comments in the past yet sits on the front bench) then playing the race card against the tories is ill thought out.

Don't throw stones from inside a greenhouse.
Diane Abbot is a member of the shadow cabinet. I have no issue with people judging her by her words and actions.

What is pointless though, and IMO puts people off politics is opportunistic bs of dragging out half truths, untruths and deliberate misleadings that then get argued over at length for no gain except one of the two (often just two) people have the last word for a few hours till the 'claim' is brought up again.

At the last election Labour had their immigration mug, Farage had his 'breaking point' billboard and the Tories had a 'go home' van - these kind of real things will happen again and need highlighting when discussing racism.

So why focus on someone (who was he, anyone know? exactly) who shouted something at a meeting that pretty much no one heard?

We can all joins hands and vow to make politics interesting, no World Cup and no Euros - this may be all we have to do on this site for a couple of months, let's not deliberately make it ****.

David Anus has been my MP for my entire voting life, first in Basildon and now in Southend. I don't know what it's like to have a vote that matters

Paul Channon was very good in Southend West, a good local MP but the Lib Dems always gave him a run for his money. Amiss is a snake and deserves the bullet but it wont happen while Labour and Lib Dems split the opposition vote. Shame, I'd have a better chance of getting away with the kick in the nuts I owe him if he wasn't an MP.

The left yesterday: May has no mandate
The left today: She can't call a GE now, that's a U-turn. It's so unfair. Waaah!

I am going to LOVE the next seven weeks.

Thanks for that because I certainly do. Dianne is the shadow home secretary but has said that black people should not be nursed by blond hair blue eyed people. One of the many reasons Labour will suffer their biggest defeat on June 8th is JC's choice of friends, both past and present.

The good news is her political career will be finished on June 9th.

The only half amusing thing about having Amiss as my MP is that he ONCE knocked when canvassing support. He didn't stay on the doorstep for long - almost running off.
He is an odious Creep of the first order.

Now Teddy Taylor WAS a fine MP.

part of that is true - she had no mandate, and as the last Tory government introduced the fixed term she has to revoke a law to make her latest U turn. The childish slant on it is all yours though - own it

you really think Diane Abbot is going to lose her seat? Anything is possible I guess but that doesn't sound likely.

No, highly unlikely in Hackney because just like you they don't care that she is a racist or doesn't believe black people who say they have not experienced racism.

She will see out her next term before landing a nice job with a charity or Quango looking to tick a couple of boxes. For someone with zero talent she has gone as far as she can in politics. The next Labour leader will drop her immediately.

That was a quick U turn - you fit in well with the Tories that you always seem to support but never have the guts to actually align yourself with fully.

2,500 people joined the Labour Party today - people who are not affraid to actually get involved

Nice try but you can't avoid the fact that Dianne Abbott is a racist and has the full support of you.

I bet none of them were Jewish.

She is also a hypocrite....AAS is already on record that he will judge her on actions and words....I assume he will condemn her racism which manifests itself in words , and hypocrisy in actions.

not avoiding anything. I said go ahead and judge her.

There is a strong Jewish section in the party who are fed up with people trying to use them for their own ends, you shouldn't believe everything you want to believe
