Good stuff. Keep it up.

I very much appreciate you being a helpful if somewhat dull person!

Thanks Wes, actually I'm thinking or renaming myself as DDoDtS (Dull Dad of Dave the Shrimper) what do you think?

After todays very welcome win we are now out of the reach of BURTON and WIMBLEDON making nine clubs who mathmatically cannot catch us. We now need eight more clubs to join this group and we are difinately in the play-offs (at least), The eight clubs outside the top seven are:

70 points possible Port Vale (0 points difference)
70 points possible Bristol Rovers(0 points difference)
71 points possible Accrington (1 points difference)
72 points possible Morecambe (2 points difference)
74 points possible Rotherham (4 points difference)
79 points possible Gillingham (9 points difference)
80 points possible Aldershot (10 points difference)
82 points possible Crewe (12 points difference)

So tomorrow Port Vale, Bristol Rovers, Accrington and Morecamble could come off the list leaving only four left to guarantee the play-offs

What a difference a week makes, last week the play-offs were looking very doutball after last night and todays results are the automatics out of reach?

Bye-bye to BRISTOL ROVERS and PORT VALE so the the maximum possible for the remaining candidates are?

71 points possible Accrington (1 points difference)
72 points possible Morecambe (2 points difference)
74 points possible Rotherham (4 points difference)
80 points possible Aldershot (8 points difference)
79 points possible Gillingham (9 points difference)
82 points possible Crewe (10 points difference)

The maximum points available for the top seven is:

101 points Swindon
93 points Shrewsbury
93 points Crawley
90 points Torquay
88 points SOUTHEND
83 points Cheltenham
83 points Oxford

Good Work! Ignore the comments from the ignorant about being boring, they clearly don't appreciate the power of the statto :finger:

Now then, something to add to the mix. Out of the current top 9 (I've included Gillingham and Crewe because realistically they're the only two that could catch us) the following team play each other between now and the end of the season. If I've missed any out then let me know and I'll add them.

Friday 6th April
Crawley v Crewe

Monday 9th April
Oxford v Torquay

Saturday 14th April
Torquay v Southend

Saturday 21st April
Gillingham v Swindon
Crewe v Cheltenham

Saturday 28th
Torquay v Crewe
Oxford v Southend

So, back to DoDTS's maximum point chart. Two things stand out. Firstly, Crewe have a tough run-in, however Cheltenham (as we saw on friday) are fading fast so Crewe willl know that the playoffs are theirs for the taking. They could well pick up points against Crawley and Torquay who they play on the penultimate game of the season and who may well be promoted by then.

The second point is us. Those two away games against Torquay and Oxford look like they could be every bit as important as the game last friday. However, as things currently stand our away points record is the same as both Oxford and Torquay's home points, which is quite astonishing really. Our approach seems to favour away games where our power and direct play does well against home teams looking to attack.

If we LOSE both those games, then the maximum number of points the top seven can get is as follows:

101 points Swindon
93 points Shrewsbury
93 points Crawley
90 points Torquay
83 points Cheltenham
83 points Oxford
82 points SOUTHEND

If we DRAW both games, the maximum number of points looks like this:

101 points Swindon
93 points Shrewsbury
93 points Crawley
88 points Torquay
84 points SOUTHEND
83 points Cheltenham
81 points Oxford

But if we WIN both then it looks like this:

101 points Swindon
93 points Shrewsbury
93 points Crawley
88 points SOUTHEND
87 points Torquay
83 points Cheltenham
80 points Oxford

So it looks at best like us v Crawley for third spot unless Shrewsbury blow it. Crawley are in an excellent run of form (13 points from 15) however they have two players suspended for 3 games after the Bradford game which may make a difference. The bookies certainly fancy them though, at the point of writing this up their odds of promotion (1/3) against ours (7/4) means a punt on us will pay out over 5 times more than them. Incidently, Shrewsbury are at 2/5, which means that said punt will pay out just over 4 times more. If you look at the other odds for the teams in the top 9, the bookies clearly think we're on our way to Wem-ber-ly.

Threads like this are very welcome.

A good forum enjoys a wide range of viewpoints and styles, serious, fanciful, thought provoking, frustrating, hopeful, resigned, bland and outrageous....a mirror of both human nature and also being a seasoned SUFCerer.

Although I am new to it, it is one of the priorities when I fire up the valves, balls and whistles that are this Tosh, and long may it continue.

And as much as I wouldn't bet against us losing to Macclesfield (who I prophesised would go down), I also wouldn't bet against us getting into the auto's.

I hope you all dress well for church today!:whistling:

Shoddy work ! :winking:

You've failed to do the six possible combinations arising out of us not winning both, drawing both or losing both but having a mix of results !

The thing about form guides is when we, for example, bring in Freddy Eastwood and Bilel Moshni and even Kane Ferdinand, all three will get goals and are match winners, players that turn the form book upside down. Lets hope they stay in the team for the next 6 games. The form book will need to be re-written methinks.

Sorry, unless the BBC League Two Table is wrong, maximum points for Torquay is 93.

Apologies too hyped up from Friday. Shrewsbury, Torquay and Crawley all can get 93 points, 5 points more than us while Oxford and Cheltenham can reach a maximum of 83 five less than us.

On a bad Friday the situation becomes clearer, and frankly the only possible outcome looks like the play-offs the current situation is ;

Bye-bye to ACCRINGTON and MORECAMBE and the the maximum possible for the remaining candidates are?

74 points possible Rotherham (4 points difference)
75 points possible Aldershot (5 points difference)
77 points possible Gillingham (7 points difference)
78 points possible Crewe (8 points difference)

The maximum points available for the top seven are:

101 points Swindon (if they win Monday or we lose they are out of our reach)
93 points Shrewsbury
93 points Torquay
91 points Crawley
85 points SOUTHEND
83 points Cheltenham
80 points Oxford

DoDtS

P.S. please feel free to check my maths!

Clearer and clearer, SWINDON are now out of our reach, ALDERSHOT drop out of the equasion. So TWO automatic places left and four places for the play-offs and nine clubs in contention. The maximum points obtainable are:

93 points Shrewsbury
91 points Torquay
91 points Crawley
85 points SOUTHEND
80 points Cheltenham
78 points Oxford
78 points Crewe
74 points Gillingham
74 points Rotherham

(Southend currently have 73 points)

If Gillingham or Rotherham fail to win any of their remaining games or we win any of ours then they drop out.
One win for us and one defeat for either Oxford or Crewe and we are definately in the play-offs.

DoDtS

Lets face it, barring a miracle, it's the play-offs for us. Only hope is Torquay blowing it, with our help.

Even Torquay blowing it isnt enough, we need two teams to self destruct and for us to win our remaining games.

Its not going to happen barring that miracle so its time to accept its the play offs and prepare on that basis.

I didn't write that correctly. I was saying that out of Shrewsbury, Crawley and Torquay, I can only see Torquay messing up with our help. Not that it would be enough anyway.

Shrewsbury must lose a few home games surely! ( pleaasssssseeee )

Crawley might get deducted LOADSA points! (PLLLLEEEEAAASEEE)

Torquay Are gonna lose to us and that will make them wobble!
(please)

Come on Jesus, Ala, Gandhi, Churchill, Opra, Jeremy Kyle, Beckham, God, The pope, all of you lot please use your magical powers!
