The PL League Boss⭐⭐🦐
Forget all the theory the facts are:

PLYMOUTH and DAGENHAM even if they were to win all their games and us lose all ours still canot catch us.

Hence we are safe from relegation.

On Saturday if either we win or the following lose then they mathmatically can't catrch us;

MACCLESFIELD and HEREFORD

IF we win and the following lose they will only be able to equal our current points tally of 64 points.

BARNET and MACCLESFIELD.

Last season our current total of 64 points would have finished 12th in the final table.

Be good if you can continue this as the season progresses.

As a fellow statto - I enjoy this type of thing.

And as said before, if you spin the season around, i.e. we struggled up to Christmas and then sprinted up the table to where we are now, we would all be looking at the prospect of catching Swindon. We would all rather be where we are than where the 'home team' of Billy Best are right now (I wonder how many are 'googling 'Billy Best' right now!!).

Slightly ridiculous as if we were in the 'sprint' part of our season now then we would be in good form and well placed to make the top three.

As it is we're on a downward trend which has been going since December and shows no signs of stopping.

To not reach the play-offs now would need a 1968 style collapse, which hopefully won't happen and you would usually say that having been at the top of the table for so long we would be in in the "wrong frame of mind" to win through in the plays offs. However this year it has developed into a seven horse race and which ever four miss out they will all be equally deflated, for instance would Crawley be any more or less demotivated than us?

It's the dark horse that creeps into the play-offs which seem to have most success and this year the two contenders were Gillingham and Port Vale, but after Vales deduction they are no longer in the frame, and Gillingham are just so erratic that I personaly couldn't see them go on an amazing run to grab the last spot.

So for me I think we are heading for the unpredicable lottery of the play-offs but think we will be on an even level with the other three contenders.

Even a return from our last 10 games similar to the 1968 collapse would probably see us into the play-offs (as we would have been in 1968, had they existed then).

I don't see play-offs as a lottery. We play our rivals home and away to determine the best team and then hopefully on to a prestigious final at Wembley to determine who goes up. Dramatic ? Certainly. Sudden death (in the final anyway), but no more of a lottery than the FA Cup or the later stages of the Champions League.

Agreed - though one thing the lottery does have in common with the Play Offs is that you DO have to be "in it to win it"

After todays matches we will definately finish above:

PLYMOUTH
DAGENHAM
HEREFORD
MACCLESFIELD

On Tuesday either a draw from us or by BARNET OR NORTHAMPTON means they won't finish above us.
A win for us or defeat by BRADFORD CITY means they will finish below us.
While a win for us and defeat by WIMBLEDON and they also will out of our reach.

For the play offs Gillingham are the nearest contenders and we need a combined gain by us/loss by them of 20 points from our 9 games and their 10 games. After that a gain/loss of 15 points puts Crewe out of the frame.

We already have six more points that we gained all last season, and our present total 67 points would have meant a ninth place finish.

Despite such a disappointing night last night the situation is that now six clubs cannot mathmatically finish above us. Below is the list of all clubs outside the top seven showing their possible final total;

59 points possible Dagenham
59 points possible Hereford
59 points possible Macclesfield
60 points possible Plymouth
65 points possible Barnet
66 points possible Bradford City

SOUTHEND CURRENTLY HAVE 67 POINTS.

67 points possible Northampton (No points difference)
68 points possible Wimbledon (1 point difference)
70 points possible Burton (3 points difference)
73 points possible Bristol Rovers(6 points difference)
73 points possible Port Vale (6 points difference)
75 points possible Morecambe (8 points difference)
77 points possible Accrington (10 points difference)
77 points possible Rotherham (10 points difference)
80 points possible Aldershot (13 points difference)

Bloody hell. You make Paul Sturrock seem entertaining.

I simply look at the league table and can gauge from that information, win, draw, lose, goals for, goals against...even broken up to home & away and of course ..points. It really is all we need to know!

God I am now boring myself! This dullness is catching. First the team.....then the supporters.

Sorry you find this so dull, perhaps it would be a good idea if you don't look at this thread again, or any of my other threads they will bore you even more probably. However you will note that a couple of posters said they enjoyed the thread and asked me to continue. Me be a helpfull person, if somewhat dull, obliged.

Keep up the good work mate, KH isn't happy unless a thread revolves around him

After yesterdays results NORTHAMPTON become the seveth side who mathmatically cannot catch us. We need ten more clubs to join this group and we are difinately in the play-offs (at least), The ten clubs outside the top seven are:

67 points possible Burton (0 points difference)
68 points possible Wimbledon (1 point difference)
70 points possible Port Vale (3 points difference)
72 points possible Morecambe (5 points difference)
