1976 The HOT HOT Summer

Yep, though Ozzie will know for sure.

I think it's the one that used to be on the corner of Grosvenor Road that is now that tower block that's been empty for 10 years or so.

Yes, that year there was a lot of Abba and tame disco. However a we were about to have big changes in the musical world as some of the bands being formed that year would include The Clash, Jam, UK Subs and the Dammed etc. Also Madness were formed in 1976.

Let's hear it too for Harpo - a one hit wonder that Summer with 'Movie Star' >

Was this opposite the beach by Chalkwell? very strange pub if I remember it at all well?
I went in there one night with my wife and the late Tommy Cooper was standing at the bar with large scotch in his hand waiting for a car to take him to The Talk Of The South where he was starring for the week .

And first appearance of.......................... The Sex Pistols

They really changed the music world.

TBH, im not sure, i thought it was a hotel!! with bar...i think it was between Southend & Chalkwell...on the seafont.
What i do remember opposite in the sea was a floating platform, where we used to swim out to...i say WE...i could not really swim,so never reached it.A lot of the "boys" went there that summer...Sir Carl,Podge,faceache...

Whoops, sorry - got to correct you there Massimo. That was in late '75 at St. Martin's College in central London. I read that years ago and that's the kind of thing that stays with me.

That may well have been their first appearance, as a band but I can certainly remember being on the T.P. (Teaching Practice) bus at Avery Hill College of Education,Eltham in 76/77,when lots of my fellow PGCE students, (not me), claimed to have seen the Pistols at various London gigs.
