I did consider putting 'Second Toughest In The Infants' in but that's kind of what Portishead are in there for as they opened me up to music beyond guitars.

Also the first two "DJ mixes" from the Heavenly Social by Jon Carter and The Chemical Brothers, a time of my life when I had really great nights out drinking water ;)

Excellent. But Reef? Really?

A mates band supported Reef at The Towngate in the week before Raise Your Hands entered the charts, they were called Honeylust and were absolutely fantastic ... they totally and utterly destroyed Reef that night but due to the ego and status clashes within the band they split a few months later .. shame as i believe they really could've "made it"

Just noticed, swear filter not working?

As the very venerable and recently departed John Mortimer succesfully argued, it isn't a swear!

In Old English, the word refers to a priest, and could also be used to mean "nonsense".

I just did this on DrownedinSound, so here it is in all its copy and pasted glory:

I'm guessing the point of this thread is to plot your journey from your initial music tastes and show how your taste developed?

Here's mine, in a vague chronological order:

Sheryl Crow - Tuesday Night Music Club
R.E.M. - Monster
Kids - OST
New Order - Best of
Boo Radleys - C'mon kids
Arab Strap - Philophobia
Orbital - In Sides
Underworld - a taped live concert of Reading '96 performance
Radiohead - OK Computer (much as I don't really like it now)
Idlewild - Captain
Six by seven - The closer you get
Mogwai - Young Team
Fourtet - Pause
mclusky - do dallas
The National - Alligator

There has been loads of others (Blur, None shall pass, It takes a nation of millions, London calling, Trompe le monde, Holy Bible, Songs for the deaf, Fuzzy logic, Chemistry) but these were the ones that led me down different musical avenues and got me to where I am today.

Note: They're not necessarily my favourite records, though a few are. But probably the most important ones on the long and winding road.
