101 Famous Larry's / Lawrences

Larry Blackmon of the band Cameo

The bloke in The Floaters who in the song Float On, says "Cancer. And my name is Larry"

Having met Lol, that's how I'm sure he would refer to what happened to him!

The Lol bit reminds me of:

Lol Creme from 10CC

Also Lenny Lawrence (if surnames count)

Laurens Van Der Post (Laurens surely being the Dutch derivative of Lawrence)

Plus:

The actor Laurence Harvey (who starred in Room at the Top)

Fat Larry (whoever he is in Fat Larry's Band) of Zoom fame.

Larry Holmes

You've got me thinking how I can divert this (within reason) to mention the lovely Lauren Laverne now.........

Who needs a reason :D

Erm... back on topic (sadly loving this)

Former West Indian batsman of the 70's and 80's Larry Gomes

And on the cricketing theme there must be a Saint Lawrence because the Canterbury cricket ground is thus named.

Just been in a meeting where I couldn't concentrate for thinking of Larry's! All very worrying when you consider I love a bit of Judy Garland too.

Anyway, more for the list:

Former Millwall centre half Lawrie Madden (never sure whether it's the same one that is often on SSN)

Former World Test wicket holder Lance (assume Lawrence) Gibbs

Former West Indies batsman Lance Rowe

Michael Parkinson's pianist Laurie Holloway

Former England fast bowler David Lawrence

Is Lance short for Lawrence then? I never knew that!
Therefore my nemesis Lance Armstrong can be included too!

I think the SSN guy is the Lawrie Madden who played pro football, didn't he also play for Sheff Weds in the 80s too?

Lance is normally a shortened version of Lawrence in Briatin - America is another guess, bearing in mind there silly first names.

Johnny Laurence more famously known as Lord Oaksey - former amateur jockey and rubbish racing presenter.

Lance Price (former BBC reporter, now some communications type with the Labour Party).

Dennis Lawrence of Swansea City.

Would Lonnie Donegan have been a Lawrence?

Lawrie Madden did play for Wednesday too (probably more famously actually). A rare graduate pro footballer IIRC (along with Julian Hails and Phil Whelan).
