Life President⭐🦐
A special mention to Paul 'Herman' Kelsey who this Saturday completes his 1000th home game without missing a single one. That includes over 100 cup games of various sorts but not Essex senior.

I believe the last home game he missed was Sheffield Wednesday on February evening game in 1979. That was due to illness. His dad wouldn't let him go. To give you some idea of how long that run of games is, we had just played Liverpool in the cup a few weeks before.

He has of course also been to hundreds of away games in that time and even met his wife Christine through following the shrimpers. They now have two grown up daughters who are now at Uni but still get down the Hall when they can.

Well done Herman fantastic effort.

Top stuff, Paul.

Hopefully the club can honour this in some way.

Fancy a shot at being manager for the rest of the season?

Seriously, extraordinary effort!

Just to add, some rough figures. The 1000 games consist of around 850 odd league games, 5 playoffs, 48 FA cup, 44 league cup and around 50 JPT and alike.

There is a dispute over the Canvey FA cup match at RH. Some claim this was an away fixture. I am in the camp that says that the game was switched so is a clear home game.

totally agree, this would make for a really great story... Be great if the club could acknowledge this, and possibly the Southend Echo..., that is if 'Herman' wants the publicity?

We were drawn away. Canvey "rented" our ground to accommodate the extra crowd because their ground was too small. It's an away game, but played at Roots Hall. If Canvey had rented West Ham's ground, would you still consider it a home game?

Sheffield United it is, then!

Actually, that could be even better.

Presentation on the pitch in front of the Sky cameras and how ironic that the last game missed was Sheffield Wednesday and the 1000th game would be Sheffield United!:cool:

Would also give the club and the Echo time to put something together with maybe an interview for the programme.

Herman spends most of his time in the away directors box nowadays!! He aint no Phil Cox !!!

I'll have you know its not all free beer and prawn sandwiches. You try and calm down Brian Horton after the late shocking referees decisions at Gillingham and Peterborough.

As a long standing supporter myself I am in awe of Herman's unbelievable achievement, he deserves either a medal or sympathy! COYBB

It was indeed an away match, switched to Roots Hall on safety grounds (the FA wouldn't allow clubs to switch to make more money, they needed a compliant police recommendation). It is in the records as Canvey Island v Southend United. We wore our orange away kit that day in the mud.

Very true but it is Still a first team fixture played at RH
