£13.9 Billion Record Profits for Shell in 2007

Were exactly did i say that i had a problem with them being successful??

My wife is a senior HR Manager for Shell so i have vested interest in them being successful

Sorry, that last bit wasn't directed at you, I was too lazy to do a separate post directed at those who think profit is obscene.

£25.000 a minute......F*uck me,

I guess that iswhy you get the bullet if you screw up and production is affected.

I knew a guy that made a typo in and H.S.E document...he put the 27 June 2002 instead of 2003.....The Health and saftey shut the platform down untill it was amended costing £750,000 in lost production.

It is an American company
No, it's not!!

"Shell" is made up of two companies, which is why you also get confusion.

The "Shell" Transport and Trading Company was a British company. Royal Dutch Petroleum Company, is obviously, Dutch.

They basically merged in the early 1900's to form Royal Dutch Shell plc, which is why (as you say) it is a Anglo-Dutch company. Neither completely British, nor Dutch. Certainly not American though.

As YB says, it is also dual-listed on both stock markets to this day and the 'Official' HQ moved to The Hague in 2006. However, a large part of RDS's operations are still run from London.

Not sure what all the fuss is. RDS is making obscene amounts of profits now and capatilising on the situation yes, however once the oils dried up and it will, eventually, profits will fall considerably. Could be compared to the internet boom of the 90s.

Of course it's a Global company, but would you call BP a global company too?! No, it's British, obviously....

Alternatively, just because you moved to Scotland, doesn't make you Scottish does it? :flamer:

Mate......read the posts above.....we have already established what you have said.

I fully know the history of Shell as i worked for them for 6 years and my wife has worked for them for longer.

But thank you for taking the time to research the Shell history on Google, then copy and paste it......

My life is so much more enriched

Or more the fact that I deal with RDS Management on a daily basis and they couldn't have published those results without my company ;)

Only reason I live in The Hague, The Netherlands is because of RDS. Obviously that link didn't quite click eh?! :p

Obviously, in those 6 years they didn't teach their employees enough about their own history. Luckily my company ensure we have first class knowledge of the clients we offer services too.... more than RDS offer to own employees...! :flamer:

lol.....i worked for Shell Uk Exploration and Production.....the clue is in the title......keep up

Why do you think that Shell would tell me all about the 130 countries plus....the words counter productive springs to mind?

Maybe the fact that they utilise there recourses towards production and exploration instead of a history lesson is the reason that they made £13.9 Billon profit in 2007!!!!!!

They employee folk that have initiative ....I.E. if the employee wants to know the history of the company then they can easily find out about it...they leave the choice to the employee instead of ramming it down there throats…modern thinking, you know? Out side the box!!

I'm actually so staggered by that response that I'm not sure if you are actually having a laugh or not.

Counter-productive for an employee to know the history of the company they work for?!

It's common business practice and sense to know about the company you work for. I often get asked about my company, and if I didn't know the history, or even the latest press releases, it's a bit unprofessional, while also being quite plainly... stupid. If I take MtS as an example, if he doesn't know the history of his law firm, I would be equally staggered. Perhaps even be worth a poll !

RDS may have made all that money, however they could have made a hell of a lot more had they realised their own inefficiencies earlier! However, as well documentated in the press recently, releasing these un-needed staff will help improve their profits even more next year. Probably the first ones they are releasing are the ones that know diddly squat or care about their own company! :flamer:

I have neither the time nor the inclination to type out war and peace in a response

I guess you put more validity in knowing the history of the company you work for as appose to being the best you can possibly be with in your position.

Difference is people don’t ask about Shell as they would RDS due to the fact that they are a global phenomena.......The Pectan is the most commonly recognised logo in the world.

I am sure that Shell can live with out RDS....after all they are only effectively contractors.

And what is it with the silly icons....does that mean you burnt me or something

Geeez

And if it was not those stupid Dutch employment laws both me and 800 other employees would still be working at the Shell base in Lowestoft instead of all being flung to the 4 corners of the world
