    Honoring players through Haiku

No doubt this has been done to death before, but I thought it was about time that we banded together to honor our players (past and present) through the traditional medium of the Japanese Haiku. What could be more appropriate than a rigidly structured word image all the way from feudal Japan...

Pre-Match Thread Exeter City v Southend Utd

Now we've established that we can pay on the gate on Saturday, and that the EDL are in Exeter city centre on the day...any thoughts on team selection, anticipated following, and final score? Bentley White Prosser Keirnan Coker Atkinson Laird Leonard Straker Hurst BBBC Subs; Smith Phillips...
  5. Eastwood Injury?

We seem to be doing well without him very recently (last 2 game) especially now the tactic has changed to 4-5-1 and the midfield are coming to form but does anyone know how long Freddy will be out for? Seems to have gone very quiet on this. Other than Barry Corr its a slight worry that we lack...
  6. Supermarket own-brand beer

Biere de Belgique at ASDA is as good as any other canned lager (apart from the Polish ones) in my opinion. £3.80 for 4x500ml is good value and it has a good belgian style - hints of both stella and leffe, but very sessionable. Any other recommendations for the frugal and discerning home drinker?

    World Cup 2014

Deserving of its own thread now I think. I'll kick things off by saying I've backed Uruguay at 50/1. I don't think they will win it but they are slightly overpriced and could be a good trading opportunity.

    BBBC - the legend

Great to see Corr:Worthy: restored as the focal point of our attack. It's no coincidence that him being belatedly restored to the line-up has seen us improve. Some stats for you: Games the legend that is Barry Corr:Worthy: starts W 6 D 2 L 2* Games the legend that is Barry Corr:Worthy: is...
  11. England vs Poland

Small fixture tonight. Can't see many if any changes to the starting line-up. Wilshere might be the only change, but only one he could replace would be Lampard.

Sitting on Manly Beach in Sydney having a coffee this morning and who should stroll by but Spencer Prior. Had a chat about our plight of which he was well aware and he looked like he could still do a job for us. Top bloke!

    Pre-Match Thread Scunthorpe United

So after 3 straight defeats it's about time we bounced back! Wont be an easy game at all tomorrow night but I think we'll nick a 2-1 win. Let's get the Hall! Come on Southend. UTB.

TEAM: Bentley; White, Coker, Prosser, Thompson; Clifford, Straker, Atkinson, Leonard; Corr, Eastwood. SUBS: Smith, Timlin, Reid, Payne, Williams, Auger, Hurst. Cowan out and Williams, Auger and Payne on the bench. Thoughts on the match? I think we can sneak a result. Maybe a 2-1 or a 1-0...
  19. One for the codgers

Spent the afternoon at Portabello market, ignoring the antiques etc I was naturally drawn to a couple of pubs and the book and vinyl stalls. I picked up a couple of Charlie Buchan magazines, one which featured goalkeeper Lawrie Leslie on the cover. He was the first Blues goalkeeper I ever saw...
