Transfer News, Gossip & Speculation Transfer Thread - Summer 2025 Edition.

Transfer news
We can all look at the forwards stats from last season, none were that good. Is this purely down to them, iN some part yes, but the slow service and poor delivery does not make them bad.
When LCP drove forward and moved the ball quicker we looked more dangerous and our forwards were afforded more space. Forwards are dependent upon service and confidence.

A good pre-season hopefully and the confidence will grow.

Do we need another striker if Bonne signs, I am not sure.

With the team strengthening going on elsewhere I think Bonne could easily get 20 goals. He could have done last season with a bit more confidence and composure taking his chances. I wouldn’t break the bank for him though so not sure what he’s after.

I am sorry, but the strikers had plenty of chances to score a lot more than they did and Bonne was the main culprit when it came to golden chances missed.

A proper striker would have got 15 plus goals for us last season but I am afraid the likes of Walker and Bonne are not the answer.

Kendall for me, has potential and with a decent striker alongside him could get a few goals this season for us as will hopefully the new signing/ signings.

I dont disagree. I even think I could have scored some of the goals we missed last term :Goal:

Perhaps even @GNH could have notched a couple. 🤣🤣

I would have fancied my chances on that, certainly knew where the goal was in my younger days!

Still remember playing a midweek 5-a-side event at PlayFootball (Goals) years ago, with @They Call It Madness!!! and Darren, the DJ at DDV's. I scored some absolute belters that night, with regularity.

Upon getting to DDV's for our usual Friday night outing, Darren stopped the music and announced Southend's #1 goal scorer had just entered the building, much to the puzzlement of the rest of the packed venue.............

Just realised I've gone full on TUIB!

Back on topic, would be pleased to see Bonne stay on reduced terms, which I think is fair considering what he offers us. Nothing wrong with sticking in a healthy scoring bonus as well.

If he does leave then we need to strengthen to allow for injuries, but the CB role needs filling first.

Bonne should have had double figures, easy.

Wouldn’t be that much of a stretch to say 15-20 was achievable.

He was very poor in front of goal end of. Nothing to do with fitness or sharpness.
I also think when goals start to dry up and players get a bit older, that instinct slowly dies, along with their confidence. The player then becomes a different player. They end up becoming more of a creator (passing the buck/responsibility) for goals and that natural nous of being in the right place at the right time, dissipates.

Dougie Freedman was a perfect example of this. He came in as finisher, and all he kept doing was refusing to shoot and kept passing it. It was so frustrating.

Bonne is the same. He doesn't look comfortable in those goal scoring positions, but looks really confident and talented when out wide being the provider. If Maher sees him in that mould, fine. If he is resigning as a goalscoring striker, I'm not so sure.

I remember DDV back in 2010’s, when it’s was excellent, until that manager (a lady with glasses and wavy hairs) ruined it.

Hmmm, not sure I agree with the comparison. Freedman was 34 when he joined us, Bonne is 29, Freedman hadn't been prolific in the top two tiers since the early noughties, but he had scored 6 in 14 for Leeds in League 1 the season before joining us, and then scored 4 in his first 4 for us. I think he'd have been reasonably prolific for us had he not then torn his hamstring early in the season. He was never the same after that, and I remember there being talk at the time of him possibly having to retire from the injury.

CP has just posted that Kev is in advanced talks with a defender. Shouldn't surprise us but wonder how soon we'll hear news of another signing.
Well, it's Friday, we've announced our front of shirt sponsor for next season and we;ve paraded next season's home shirt. They say that good things come in threes............................
