Transfer news
with respect to GOODLIFFE that equaliser came about from the shot Walker took after beating his man from an acute angle, when to my mind a simple pass out to COKER who was running in unmarked would have meant an easy shot into an empty net for Coker and a 3-1 lead for us ,then that long clearance would never have occurred.

In fairness, I wasn't taking about ****housery. I was talking about matching their physicality (no nonsense). We've been found wanting on a number of occasions when it comes to that. That's what I meant by a no nonsense player. A player that is going to let the opposition know that not only are we a really good footballing side, but we can also give you a battle if we need to as well. We always found that hard particularly against those sides near the bottom who only ever want to play that way. This got better when Goodliffe came into the team to be fair.

I do agree with you though, that this wouldn't even be a debate if we actually took our chances. No one would talk about the defense if we were winning games 2-1, opposed to drawing them. That's where we massively need to improve.
I feel like our perceived issues against teams who play physically are more to do with the fact that those are often the sides who play a low block that we've struggled to break down. Oldham were big and strong but they at least played to attack which suited us better.

Where we have struggled post-Cardwell (and Pepple) is having a striker with the physical gifts to make big CB's uncomfortable. Hopper is good in the air but not mobile enough, Kendall is quick and a good ****houser but not the strongest. Hopefully Spasov can provide some of that when he's got accustomed to the step up.

I don’t want to blame the loss on one player as it obviously wasn’t his fault as it’s a collective performance. But I can’t disagree with any of that. Goodliffe didn’t cover himself in glory losing the battle to Norwood, but it’s the Walker moment that annoys me most on the (very limited) occasions I’ve watched it back.

Maybe he wasnt great in the play off final however he was a massive part of the reason we got there towards the end of the season.

Don’t disagree at all. I’d have him back all day long to be honest.
Goodliffe seems a decent squad player, but having him, Gubbins and Crowther is too much cover, and none are obviously standout to take the spot.

Whilst with some good signings so far it's tempting to dream, It's extremely unlikely we'll win the league this year, so the best we can hope for is lining up at Wembley in 11 months time and I personally wouldn't be confident if Goodliffe is our CCB.

He's a decent NL footballer who gives his all, but not sure he's quite up to standard to be a key part of a side that wins promotion.

Completely agree with this sentiment. I'd also put Miley and Noor in the tough tackling category but they are just first and foremost ball playing midfielders. I don't think we need to be nastier or grittier (call it what you will). We just need to manage games better from winning positions, something i'm sure the coaching staff will be aware of.

Miley is sometimes that walking red card but that’s down to mistiming rather than mischief.
Was just coming on here to say the same as Zeuss. Excellent player on his day and can really run the show. Was an ever present and 1st name on the team sheet for a long period.

He's had some time on the sidelines and since he's come back and not had a consistent run in the side he has been reckless- should have been sent off 10 minutes into Wembley final and there was a game previously where he done the same. That playoff final could have been done 10 minutes in.

Season before last he looked to be playing a league below where he should be and h
e's built up a lot of credit but for me it's been spent and he has a lot to prove this season or could be heading for the door.
