How you feeling ?

I am looking forward to meet the blues day. This must be the first time we have nearly a full/complete squad beforehand as well. And we still have a club. Completely different from the last few years. Good times

I made my peace with the NL a few seasons back. I’ll go against the grain and say I actually don’t mind it at times!

The more I see things changing in the leagues above us, I do occasionally wonder what all the fuss is about. Are we that desperate to play Newport County (A) on a Thursday night in the middle of winter? Or a home game against Accrington Stanley, on a Sunday evening?

The “end” goal in football is to get as high up the pyramid as possible. Personally, the Premier League is a circus, which I wouldn’t want any part of (although granted, if Southend ever reached it, I’d still enjoy the ride). Ask Ipswich fans how they’re feeling. A lot of them are happy to return to the world of “real” football this season,

I’ll always support Southend, home and away, regardless what league we’re in. I’ve had some cracking away days in the last few seasons, and spent more time with my family than I normally would have done.

As Scott says, the novelty of being a big fish in a small pond hasn’t worn off either. I love turning up in some jerkwater berg town, and taking over, like a Viking raiding party in the 9th century.

Visiting new grounds has been fun too. Whether it’s the tidy little ones, like York, or the weird ramshackle ones, like Sutton. Is anyone really that desperate for Gillingham away?

I’m looking forward to the season now. I’ve put Wembley behind me & am ready to see us kick the **** out of all these pub teams.

I appreciate not everyone will feel that way, and that’s fine. Each to their own.

I'm ok. Still a little scarred from Wembley, and still refusing to watch any highlights of the match itself.

Looking forward to the new season, though, and eager to see some new signings.
Same…..haven’t watched any highlights and still haven’t read anything of the post match thread. Never felt worse at a match than the last few minutes that day.

Same. Very much looking forward to getting back to the Hall, and hopefully for the visits of Charlton, Luton and Wimbledon the West Stand will be open!

The final was so tough to take how it ended, not surprised you haven’t watched it. I have watched highlights but i was literally sat on the floor after their third as it totally floored me. Was 10th anniversary to the day of my dad’s passing and thought the boys would do it. Still hurts, will for a while. It felt destined and I wanted it so much for our team and staff but wasn’t to be. Just need new season to start.

As someone said I think we’ll know where we are by end of September due to the stupidity of one auto spot.

I am through the disappointment of Wembley and just want to crack on with next season, but seeing the EFL fixtures was like knocking the scab off a nearly healed wound and yesterday it ****ed me off, but, today it's onwards and upwards.

Did watch the full game back, glad I did it for those few minutes in extra time when we were ahead. I’ll never forget the atmosphere at that time. Now we move and try to go one better
For just a few minutes it felt like the world had healed. Genuinely thought at 2-1 we were going to make it.

Cannot watch even a minute of the highlights and find myself looking at my Wembley bucket hat on the shelf daily.

Safe to say I'm not over it one bit and some strong signings might help the healing!

It has been an extremely fraught couple of years. The Oldham game was true heartbreak; a friend text me that evening "wtf? you had it!"

Given the various stresses of everything at the club, I can take a summer like this. There is no existential threat, no journalists to brief, no politicians to implore, no infighting to extinguish. I'd like a few more early signings but, in true SUFC style, the entire extra month has made that difficult too. I'm sure there's stuff in the pipeline there but I'm glad for a break and excited to look at 25/26 with hope and determination, rather than desperation.

Haven't and can't watch the highlights, 'cos it's like reading a book where you know the hero dies in the end.

However, looking forward to next season. Summer seems to be dragging. Hoping July will bring with it a gathering pace of news and signings until we roll again in August and hopefully have a team to fear for the rest of the division!

Interesting comments you make but personally I would love to be playing Newport and Accrington in the EFL. Higher profile for the club and the City of Southend, more media exposure and finance. It's depressing looking at fixtures v Tamworth, Truro, Eastleigh etc. Although I have renewed my Season Card every season since the 1970's I can't share the enthusiasm for this level of football that others have shown. However, at least we still have a club to support and hope for better days ahead.

That’s fair enough, and like I said, it’s each to their own.

Like you, I’m glad we have a club to support.

I think back to some of my most favourite moments supporting this club (you’ve got me beat by the way, this is only my 30th year)

Piggott at Wembley. Freddy’s free kick. Clarke’s header against Chelsea, shortly followed by Barrett’s a few weeks later.

Leon’s goal at Wembley would probably go into the mix with those memories too.

Which league we are/were in, doesn’t factor into those moments. Those moments transcend league status.

I hope you, me and every other Shrimper gets to add to these memories in the coming months/years.

A last minute winner against Tamworth, Truro or Eastleigh, at Wembley Stadium, will feel just as good as any of the moments I’ve mentioned above.

Didn’t Oasis sing 🎤 ‘Don’t look back in anger ‘
I’m now at peace with myself after Wembley and now look forward to the multitude of signings to come ( tongue in cheek)

Totally agree, though at some point if we want real success we need to march up the leagues

So what your saying for you it is about what level Southend are at as a precondition whether you go support / get a season ticket?

I know it’s not as black and white as that and I’m sure you don’t mean it like that.

I'd put GSM's penalty at Forest Green among those moments. Many demons of seasons past were exorcised that night, it was just our moment and it had been a long time since I ever had that feeling watching SUFC.
