Transfer News, Gossip & Speculation Transfer Thread - Summer 2025 Edition.

Transfer news
I don’t think we need the plethora of signings some are crying out for. Yes we need 4/5 quality additions however, I have a bit of faith that Walker with a proper pre season and injury free could catch fire. A dominant CB and a LWB and I think we’d be well stocked to start the season.
Yes but I am also looking for movements on all ends, outgoings and incomings, lots of work needs to be done before pre-season starts.

Agreed. If we dont move a few out this summer we are either going to have a big rebuild next summer when the whole team are out of contract or keep players that will never get us to where we need to be. There are only a few players I would have marked down as not for sale and would take a big offer to let go.

Agreed. Should be nailed on for 90+ points again and likely the title. That's a squad capable of doing damage in League 2, let alone the NL.

The rest of us plebs are fighting for 2nd/3rd. We will need a few more quality additions to be in that conversation though.
I can see us hitting top 3 if we add few more good players

Yep, don’t understand the hate. Can hold the ball up when needed, has trickery, can score goals. Not an out and out striker maybe, but some confidence and a better attacking side, I rate him. What’s he done that’s so disastrous?
Hugely impressive scoring record… our whole attack needs a full refresh with exception of Kendall and Slav. Walker ain’t getting us the goals we need so move him on and replace him with better. So many fans seem against moving our players on.

Cardwell and Corr or any other successes of Southend would have similar records before us, right? I don’t live and die by stats. Appears a confidence player to me. None of our strikers set the world alight. Don’t understand why he gets the brunt of the hate.

On top of that of the 24 other games we didn’t score more than 1 in 11 of those. In some of those games I don’t remember us even having 2 good chances. When we go behind we often end up hitting and hoping and we 100% struggle breaking teams down with our slow build up where we need to go more direct more often.

Our midfield need to chip in with more goals and it often appears we don’t take risks enough because we are scared of losing the ball hence the constant backwards and sideways football which frustrates fans.

And yet, from mid-November onwards, we were the third best team in the league.

That’s not to take away from your opinion, I agree that in some games we didn’t look particularly good. But looks can be deceiving. The stats shows that the bigger picture is not as bad as some think, not now, nor back then.

If we can add a goal scorer (or better yet, one of our current crop hit a season-long purple patch) and we can bring in a commanding CB, we should be in a good position for this upcoming campaign.

Not saying I think Walker is the answer, but I don’t subscribe to the view that he is as bad as some are making out, but stats can be very misleading, especially when they are false.

Just going on the League, Walker was in the match day squad 37 times. 20 starts, 17 sub appearances and twice he didn’t come off the bench. Maybe your stats are total competitions, so I’ll let you off. But there is no breakdown like I’ve provided. Could go even more in depth with actual minutes played, which would be a more accurate way of looking at it.

4 goals appears correct. I make it goals against Wealdstone, Rochdale, Flyde & Ebbsfleet. 2 of those were goals when he started and 2 came off the bench.

He picked up 2 assists, not the one you state. One against FGR at home, and one against Ebbsfleet away (came off the bench and scored and got an assist in that game).

Just saying 4 goals in 38, whilst incorrect (unless that includes cup games, but I’ve not looked if he scored in the cup) isn’t a fair assessment. Only 20 of those appearances were starts. In fact, he only actually played the full 90 minutes three times last season.

Your analysis is a fair point. Reason he doesn’t play more often though is because he isn’t good enough. We do need to be a bit more ruthless to a point and need to move players on that aren’t right to bring others in other clubs at the top do this even if they loan them out. The negative with a small squad is that out of form players still get too many minutes. Realistically at the end of next season when most players contracts end would you want to keep most of this squad on say another 2 year contract? We need to move some on this summer to start that rebuild now as if we are being honest we ain’t winning the league this season. If we start the rebuild now say moving 5 players on if possible then we will be in a better position to go for it in the 26/27 season once York have gone and we are in a better financial position to invest more.

Going back to Walker though I don’t think many people would be unhappy if he did move on and that says a lot. We tried with him, it hasn’t worked and both parties should try and move on. I could be wrong but didn’t we only get him because of a few injury issues after he left Dagenham whilst at Burton?
