Transfer News, Gossip & Speculation Transfer Thread - Summer 2025 Edition.

Transfer news
Interesting to hear that because earlier this evening It was reliably mentioned to me that there was an element of concern raised during the recruitment process about his temperament. Apparently had some issues at both Brighton and Coventry. I wonder if that's what caused us to seemingly drag our heels in getting the deal done as some have indicated. It was not a concern from the management team but elsewhere from within.

Just looking on the Crawley fans forum and noticed this post;

" Yes I am not sure either. Worthing fans seen to be split whether will miss him and whether can play at our level. Apparently likes to be main man and links better with some players than others. May be worth a punt if Scott can develop him to his full potential. Hopefully, not another Rodari who could not make the step up".

Maybe we felt he wouldn`t be a team player and fit in to the close bond our players have. Maybe people jumping to the cost, but may not have been the reason.
As I posted a few days back may well be something to it
My source if you like, for the want of a better word, has a long association with the Club and is on personal terms with the coaching staff.

Bloody hell YB, Eastwood ! if you trawl back a couple of decades and about 100 transfers you can find the odd success ! I would argue, Kensdale aside, the current regime have not signed a single NLN or S player that is EFL standard. Leon is not proven yet, Cardwell is a NL bench player. The current transfer policy turned things round big time for us and inexpensively stopped the rot. I'm not convinced it will get us where we want. No players have gone on to be worth real money. Please don't say £150K for Cardwell isn't to be sniffed at because I think it is and if it didn't trigger his contract I hope we would have turned it down. Whilst GSM can't pass, cross or defend like a EFL player I hope we don't 'cash in' on him unless it's a daft offer. Forward wise apart from Cardwell there is Wood, Powell, Wreh, Waldron ?

Seven examples over 21 years seems a reasonable example of the upside. Three of them so far have been sold for at least six figure sums.

If you’re not going to be satisfied with a RWB who scored 17 goals last season and won player of the year two years in a row, a striker who was worth £150k and a talent like Parillon then I guess you’re not going to be satisfied.

FWIW Jack Wood and Chris Wreh were signed from lower down than NLS/N. Not every signing is going to be a success but under Maher I showed we were hitting at a 60% success rate for signings from that level.

Who do you think we should be targeting?

I get that we are looking to get/looking at two top players and two rough diamonds. Is it just me that is disappointed that the two ‘top players’ out of the four linked are Cashman and Pereira presumably? I really don’t see how they would be classed as ‘top players’ that would get us out of this division

That’s not what I said.

I said, from who we have been linked with, we have been linked with two that could be classed as top players and could as rough diamonds.

Periera would be one of the best players in the national league. If you don’t think he classes as a top signing, I’d be interested to know who you would class as one.

You put the words in my mouth that our transfer policy lacks ambition. The ambition appears to be sustainability and not chase success through paying over the odds which is fair enough. It won’t get us 100 points. In the circumstances I think we should be making much more use of the loan market.

He might be for FGR but he scored 18 goals for us the season before last!

We could target Ronaldo but unless we sign him it's all irrelevant

You wouldn’t target them at all if you just wanted a solid season.

You wouldn’t open dialogue with both players and agents. You wouldn’t discuss terms, you would start doing DD for the players.

Agreed, you need to bring them in, but why waste you time if you just want a solid season?

I am reliably told that Cashman was a very real prospect but there was some dithering about a fairly insignificant sum of money which allowed Crawley to come in and snap him up.

If COSU want to get promotion in the coming season, they've got to be a bit sharper with decisions and give Kev the players he wants as long as they're at the right price (Cashman was).
Hmmmm... Where have I heard that before? 🤔

I remember how excited people were when Moncur arrived (heady days of GM appreciation thread) turned sour pretty fast. I don’t get down or upset by perceived bad singings till I’ve seen them. Remember Dalby looking underwhelming stats wise. Spasov seems like a good find to me. Couple of current players discounted after last year’s showing will be better next year too in my eyes. Excited for who we get CB and pace wise.
I think Spasov may very well be a good investment. But don’t expect too much too soon (of course we would love a very pleasant surprise). But goals at that level are much easier to come by. Even more so the level below. Our own Charley Kendall was very prolific at NLS level with 29 in 51. Goals much harder to come by at NL level. It’s realistic expectations that’s all. Else it could be the classic SZ write a player off after 5 games.

I think Shriperstats came up with something very interesting in looking at Spasov’s goal output. It led him to highlight Sloughs winger Ogbonna and his assists and quality balls/crosses into the box that Spasov was often on the end of.

Now this of course is pertinent (Ogbonna by the way has gone to Sutton- his data not having gone unnoticed) because arguably this is what holds back our existing strikers let alone those coming in. Balls slow into the box, not beating the first man, ballooned over the back, etc etc. so I would argue it’s quite difficult for a CF to over perform expectations unless this is addressed as well. There is much mention of the number of balls we put in the box, much less about the speed and quality.

Mmm, I agree balls into the box were poor on many occasions but I don’t think it’s the biggest issue with our goal output. Need more variety and quality in our all round attacking play to create space. Like the ability of a CB to break the game line and change the state of play.

Wasn’t there a trouble maker with poor attitude called Collymore we took a punt on once? Perversely if you really want to get a real bargain that will make you money then it will be someone our data (and everyone else’s) says no to with a bit of questionable behaviour thrown in- these you rely on the likes of JS to uncover and understand…
