Transfer News, Gossip & Speculation Transfer Thread - Summer 2025 Edition.

Transfer news
I don't think many fans would be too frustrated if GSM gets bought for £100k+, not saying anyone will offer that, but I'd be surprised if we let him go for much less.

The real bitter pill is if its for another NL club like FGR, but ultimately we should back ourselves and as we've seen there's no guarantee anyone who has performed well here will do so elsewhere in this division (Cardwell and Hobson being two obvious examples).

I think we need a better and creative midfield. Husin runs but doesn't create much, Miley has gone from Rolls Royce to Robin Reliant, Morton has possible fitness issues. By not creating, our forwards are getting lambasted. Problem is the defenders are making mistakes as they are not very well protected by the midfield. That, in my opinion, is where we should strengthen. Of course we do also need a defender as numbers are low.
The three players you mention at the start of your post have hardly scored ten goals between them since they have been with the club. This is one of our major problems that needs rectifying.

That means with 5 players already needed when the season finished, and possibly having to replace up to 6 others, a big recruit drive is needed. I just can't see us being able to successfully obtain that amount of players, that can then challenge at the top end of the table with the amount of money it would cost and the length of time needed to bed those players in.

Before anyone retorts with, it's all 'ifs' and 'buts', or COSU aren't showing intent if they let those players go, we know if an EFL club comes in for them, they are off. It's as simple as that. EFL clubs will 100% be sniffing around all three. That's absolutely fine, because that's the model we are trying to create. But trying to replace those players, whilst also trying to get the 4-5 we already needed is going to be so tough.
But those players might not leave. You can't recruit for positions that don't exist. Don't forget, there's no window in the NL so we could lose anyone at any time. This season we will have plenty of names on the whiteboard and aside from what we need now, we'll cross those bridges when we come to them.

We don't need to go on an immediate big recruit drive but if we do, it will be with the money from the sales and is unlikely to be all at once.

I think it’s exactly this, and it’s going to be the first real statement from COSU of how they want to manage the club.

Imagine there’s a bid of £80k:

Do they accept it, cash in and take the profit knowing he could walk for free in a year and if he stays then he’s never going to be worth that much again? Effectively the Peterborough approach. £80k might not be much, but it gets you Spasov and one or two others and covers some wages for a good few months.

Do they turn it down as a statement of intent that we’re not selling our best players and do want to “attack the league” and go one step further this season?

All indications have been the former, but this is the first real test of that approach.
A cynic might say why we you let a RWB go to acquire a CF who is less prolific in the league below. Gus is 28 not 35?

Which is why those three were never in the same midfield together last season and Coker, KAF and Parillon usurped them for the attacking midfield spots.
