Transfer News, Gossip & Speculation Transfer Thread - Summer 2025 Edition.

Transfer news
I bet both teams are one bad season from a chain of relegations that will see them back in the third division. It wouldn’t surprise me if Southampton are there next season and it is not so long ago they were regarded as the model for sustainable stats based recruitment.
Hear what you say although you would have to question the substance of the operating model and infrastructure in place if it played out that way. Having reached the financial promised land of the Premiership it should be easier to underwrite the practices that nurtured the Clubs progression in the first place but those values can be lost, especially where new investment or buyouts become the order of the day and the pursuit of hefty returns for shareholders crush the foundations of what got them there in the first place.
Sustained investment in a Club should never just be on financial level in my humble opinion.

I don't know a great deal about spasov, but this every now and again puts back into perspective how far we've dropped to be excited about a player from Slough town. I saw he scored 15 last season and I genuinely hope he comes in and absolutely tears it apart but is there not also the risk of another Waldron? Again for the record I'm not skating anyone or the club here, and it's right what some have said in COSU don't have deep pockets and we work with what we have.

I see what you are saying and it is a risk but when a risk pays off aka LCP it’s worth it.

Absolutely.

When new players come in, all coaching teams will believe they can further improve that player & I dare say that’s the case with this lad.

It’s certainly been the case for a lot of lower league talent we’ve brought in (Cards, GSM, Morton, Kensdale, Noor, etc)

Unfortunately, on the flip side of that, we have some that just don’t seem to progress (for whatever reason). Wood & Waldron are prime examples of this.

And what about you YB, what do you like?

I’ve probably been bits of most of them at various times which is I think how I’ve managed to keep the interest going. I’m certainly not above loving a transfer rumour!

The three most exciting players for us in my life time played for Grays Athletic, Stafford Rangers and Leyton Orient before playing for us. This new guy probably isn’t going to be an Eastwood, Collymore or Otto but one can dream.

If he’s as exciting as our last player from Slough that’s a huge win.

Absolutely and I guess all signings are a gamble, even at the top end spending millions and players don't live up to it, and yes LCP definitely looks a player that gamble will work and he will obviously have a good understanding already of spasov

I don't believe Jack Wood or Danny Waldron had spent any time in either Academy or full-time football prior to joining us, although both were at very different stages of their careers. This means they were less likely to have a higher ceiling than the National League, albeit it is possible (as potentially shown by Gus Scott-Morriss).

Wood was 19 and it was hoped that he was a rough diamond that could be polished in the National League; at 27 Waldron should've been at the peak of his powers and was coming off prolific spells in the seventh tier and - for half-a-season - in National League North.

By contrast, Slavi Spasov would be following the model of signings such as Harry Cardwell (Hull City, Reading), Ollie Kensdale (Colchester United), James Morton (Bristol City), Leon Chambers-Parillon (Luton Town, Aston Villa, Oxford United), Noor Husin (Reading, Crystal Palace), Joe Gubbins (Southampton, QPR), Harry Taylor (Chelsea, Barnet), Keenan Appiah-Forson (West Ham United), Charley Kendall (QPR) in that their formative years were spent in Academy football, but they've dropped to National League/National League North or South to find regular football and haven't necessarily found their ceiling.

Of course, it doesn't guarantee that he'd be a success, but I feel it's less of a gamble than Wood or Waldron were and has more chance of paying off for both us and the player.
