Transfer News, Gossip & Speculation Transfer Thread - Summer 2025 Edition.

Transfer news
To be fair, the post he quoted and said he agreed with (mine) stated that in point 2.

Kev and the team managed to squeeze all the juice out of this squad given what they had. I'd personally be very surprised if this squad with no additions finished 3rd next season, I'd estimate 6-7th is more likely, but who knows maybe the three amigos can yet again over deliver on the tools they've been given.

Naturally COSU aren't to blame for those tools and aren't the enemy, they're the clubs saviours who are doing everything they can to rebuild the club in both the short and long term. As with any new ownership group there will be teething problems, targets missed and lessons learnt.

What annoys some of us on here is the self-righteous mockery from some that seem to think the idea of anyone being frustrated that we've missed out on our top target, who by all accounts was ready to sign, are being delusional.

We're all aware of the history of many of our great signings not being obviously the next big thing (Corr, Leonard, etc) and there's a sizeable chance that a Spasov may be far more impactful than Cashman would have, but having been through the pain of being a Southend fan and having missed out on any half decent player for half a decade, it's naturally a little annoying when the new dawn is announced but turns out to be false.
So now its time to pick on Cosu for being diligent and saving our club and working so that we never get back like it was again, Grow up ! they are doing whats proper for the salvation of SUFC , yes it mat take time ,i do believe they COSU had a 5 year plan not an overnight fix

You're assuming Gus is going to get 15+ goals again.

Almost impossible to finish top 3 without a 25 goal plus goalscorer, or a couple of 15 plus goalscorers. Walker, Bonne, Hopper will do well to get 10. I like Kendall as I feel he's the only one of the forwards who brings more than goals but I'd be surprised if he reached double figures either.

I hope you're right and I'm wrong but 5th/6th/7th is our maximum in my opinion.
if Walker , Bonne and Kendall can et 10 each and hopper 5 that will go more that enough if GSM get none plus i also think the midfield will contribute more

Walker won’t get half of that mate. He is awful. Bonne will get 10+ goal involvements but would imagine he’d get more assists than goals, Kendall could possibly get 10, hopper 5 at a push.

You obviously need strikers to get goals but equally we need midfielders to contribute too. The top clubs will have numerous players getting double figures.

we will see

2 out of the 3 teams this season did it.
“Easy” was maybe the wrong word … no team competing would tell you that anything about the NL is easy.

We need a squad that’s well equipped to compete consistently over 46 games but no it doesn’t matter where the goals come from. I doubt they’re coming from our current lot, we need better quality.

I kinda guess most of us haven’t been impressed with how the club handled the Cashman affair.
But we just have to believe that there will no repeat of the complacency shown previously.
Overall the new owners have done exceptionally well over the past 10 months. I’m sure there will be several incomings happening fairly soon, we just have to be patient and keep the faith.
I would just like to add that I think we have the best supporters in the country. That play off game at Wembley is still an amazing achievement. What a fantastic atmosphere and coming together of blues from around the globe.
( sorry off topic)

L'Affaire Cashman, as it will become known

I think some people must have thought we won the playoff final. We are non league we lost out to a football league club we need to move on from this. Its going to happen. We talk about not wanting to be in this league so why would players want to be?

We seem to think because of what Justin said we will have a bigger budget. We are still paying debts we are going to only be signing a small amount of signings. We wont be releasing 10 players etc as some have suggested.

Not sure I’ve seen much self-righteous mockery to be fair and certainly not for any frustration Fred. I think the challenging is more to do with the absolute certainty from posters with paltry information (even if it did come from ITKs) that our team of professionals **** the bed while the same posters would’ve done it differently. Perfectly. Without fail. Cos it really is just about giving someone a piece of paper or e-document and having them sign it.

It’s always much easier throwing bombs from the sidelines. Reality is they MIGHT have dropped one, but IF they did, there are certainly good reasons for us to be following a process.

The “what I would have done…” attitude from some posters, when they really don’t have the full set of facts, knowledge or experience is really tiresome.

But ultimately, it’s just opinions. And it’s what the board is for.

I think using the word 'false' is a little over the top.

COSU have more than delivered on so many fronts, potentially missing out on 1 player doesn't change a thing, I'm sure we might 'miss out' on a couple more.

At the end of the day nobody knows the true story re this 'missed' player unless the club tells us, a lot of social media nonsense has been posted on this subject as ever.

I've just bought a season ticket for the first time again in many years and will only make a few games, but I want to invest in this club again, confident the new owners & the management team will get the players in they want, at a fair cost to the club, and see in a successful 25/26 season.
To be clear, the false dawn I was referring to was finally signing a top target after half a decade of not being able to.

As mentioned in the post, COSU haven't let anyone down, they've continually gone above and beyond.

Was just nice to dream we might land our top target for once, but we'll put together a decent squad and be competitive.

Judging by that Worthing fan calling Cashman high maintenance would indicate the hold up to signing him was DD.

I’d rather take our time over signings and make sure they’re right, rather that having no reference over players and them disrupting the changing room.

It’s no secret we have got a really tight knit squad and don’t want someone coming in and disrupting.

There was a certain player we lost out to Dagenham. We hd uproar on here an look at where he has ended up at.

Yes we could have Cashman and Pearce as our strikers with ifs and buts. We move on and have to deal with what we have got. The team we have were 8 minutes away from promotion with what we have.

We need to get behind the team with whoever we end up with

One of Ron's rare Ws - he didn't rate Mussa and maybe he was right.
