Wembley tickets

Please don't take this the wrong way, I am just intrigued

Obviously some of our fans are "Man united or Man City" fans who also follow latics. So this isn't a pop at Southend.

I keep reading that some of yours are West Ham & Spurs who also follow Southend. Why Spurs? It's not exactly close to Essex.

My mum's auntie moved to Basildon and they all are West Ham fans. I get they have the "East end & outward" But why Spurs? Or is this a complete myth?
My parents moved early 50is to the Southend area but still remained Spurs supporters and occasionally went to WHL but due to financial reasons dropped off going and subsequently started to follow Southend United when I followed. Our fan base is made up in similiar ways but whilst there family Roots are elsewhere it's more fun in following your local club.Ironically I have seen many Man U supporters leaving Southend on some Saturday's to travel up to UT.In the current state they are in I am surprised they bother cost alone

Something light hearted for those not in attendance on Sunday but will be watching on !

"Wembley Dreams (From the Sofa)"

Southend fan in training, remote in his hand,
He’s prepped for the match — the best in the land!
Southend to Wembley, he’s full of cheer,
(Though he once said they'd win... "maybe once every year.")

He's wearing the shirt — three sizes too tight,
Says it's “vintage,” though it’s clearly not right.
He’s pacing the lounge like a tactical coach,
Offering wisdom from under the throw.

“The ref is a clown!” he’ll exclaim with a huff,
While juggling crisps and shouting out stuff.
“I could’ve scored that with both eyes shut!”
(Spoiler: he once pulled a hamstring getting up.)

He’s sarcastic and smug, but deep down he’s proud,
Shouting, “Come on, Southend!” far too loud.
He’s planned out his snacks, his halftime routine,
Even paused the loo break — dedicated machine.

And though he's just watching it all on TV,
He swears they're winning ‘cause he’s yelling, “Blue Army ”
So raise up your mugs, here’s to football and fun,
A win and the National League can just do one!

It may be Wembley saying no, but let’s remember, their preference would always have been to say YES. As they always have. Except for now. So what’s different?

As you said in your first paragraph, Most obvious is the NL who have failed abysmally in their management of the process.

It’s absolutely disgusting and there must be some financial accountability.
Well a clear statement from Dan Cowan and the MPs that says it Wembley are the ones saying no. I would take that as almost certainly the case. They have spoken to various stakeholders.

Let’s see if Bullingham the Wembley CEO responds to the media to claim otherwise

But yes of course the NL have probably created the situation in the first place then handled it appallingly thoughtout- absolute cretins

The Greater Southend City area has about 300,000 inhabitants. A huge potential fan base. It’s true many over the years migrated from East London in particular. My family and my wife’s originally from Leyton/Leytonstone/Walthamstow (East London). So yes there are going to be a meaningful number of football fans who support a London club first and having moved to the area or their parents having moved to the area see us as the second club. My Dad was an Arsenal fan but followed Southend closely and attended a few games every year.

That said most in this rush for seats are, I think, just indicative of our large potential fan base, and a large number of people for who if they did regularly support a club it would be us. And we have a large fan base that have moved away and will come back for big games.

If you've ever seen that United fan (give it giggsy til the end of the season) Andy Tate.

He goes to Latics home & away when United don't play. Goes all over in a full tracksuit. He was in front of me in the home play off semi too. He's not normally in my end though.

He bangs on about being Mr United & does a United podcast, but he's a 2 club man & sometimes does our away games before going to United

A fan getting on the train at Basildon can be at a London Premier League ground - Palace apart - in about an hour plus.
A lot of Basildonians have roots in The Smoke; I come from norf London and was about six months from supporting Arsenal - but we moved to Bassy!
"Mum, can I go to West Ham?" (I knew no better...)
"No, of course not. I'm not having a 10-year-old bouncing around on a terrace with 35,000."
"Mum, can I go to Southend?"
Thinks...
"Yeah, you can have a terrace to yourself!"

Heading to Wembley - Southend United supporters (Image: FOCUS IMAGES)

By Jessica Day-ParkerDigital Audience and Content Editor

BOTH of Southend's MPs and its council leader have written to the FA boss in a final plea to release more Wembley tickets ahead of the play-off final.

Southend United take on Oldham at the home of English football next Sunday but the Blues are currently restricted to 21,500 supporters, plus additional tickets sold with a coach package, due to works shutting Wembley Park station on the day.

Ahead of the face-off, Bayo Alaba, MP for Southend East and Rochford, David Burton-Sampson, MP for Southend West and Leigh, and Daniel Cowan, leader of Southend Council, have now sent a joint letter to the chief executive of the FA and Wembley Stadium imploring the stadium to release more standard tickets
It says: "As Chief Executive of the FA and Wembley Stadium, you know better than most that football is the beating heart of our nation and every community across it.

"Wembley Stadium is the National stadium and is the spiritual home of football. Yet for many Shrimpers and Latics this weekend, due to the decision to limit tickets for the Vanarama National League play off final, it will be a home they are not welcome in.

"The decision to limit tickets, and deny football supporters the chance to cheer on their team, has been apportioned to many stakeholders but our investigations have found the final decision rests with Wembley Stadium.

"The local council has been blamed, however, the circumstances around the National League Final and the scheduling of rail maintenance works were known well enough in advance. That meant there was sufficient information available to Wembley Stadium to make their own judgement about a safe capacity without consideration by the SAG.

"Indeed, Brent Council has provided additional Car and Coach Parking capacity and have agreed to our every request for support as the Members of Parliament and Leader of the Council for Southend. In short, Brent Council offers no opposition to the increasing of capacity for this final.

"The ownership of the final decision to limit or increase capacity for this match is Wembley Stadium's. We implore you to take this last opportunity to give Shrimpers and Latics alike their right to support their club. We implore you to take this opportunity to demonstrate that the entire pyramid is important to English Football.

"Twickenham is the home of English Rugby. It is an 82,000 capacity stadium that is accessible by a single rail station. This makes the decision to limit capacity at Wembley, which is served by several stations, and more readily accessible by other modes of public transport look ridiculous.

"The arrival of fans will be staggered and the exit of fans could also be staggered, ameliorating concerns about rail capacity. Coach packages have increased capacity a little but the cost of coach packages are pricing out many supporters and the clubs are struggling to source enough coaches at such short notice.

"More general capacity tickets are possible, Wembley Stadium can make it so. Please do the right by these clubs and let the fans in."
