Post-Match Thread and Ratings Gateshead 0-0 Southend United

We used to have trouble with the NLTV last season by casting, now we just use the DAZN app and haven't had any problems this season. The only issue yesterday was with the sound level and an inept commentator.
I thought the two commentators were very good yesterday. Some good, unbiased observations, and they weren't short of compliments towards our play/ players.

The much maligned Bridge and Hopper are invaluable to this team. Sure both should be scoring more goals but clearly opposition managers rate them more than some of our fans given the doubling up defending.
Bridge has looked more effective of late and that's a bonus at this stage of the season. I thought when Hopper returned he did little to warrant selection but he has contributed more and more with each game and is earning his dosh. I still think the extra busy of Bonne and Kendall together is my preferred pairing but it would be churlish to suggest Hopper should not play a part in each game. We need to concentrate more on the goals return with potentially three knockout games to come and, possibly misguidedly, I believe there are goals in our front line.

Has anyone seen the interview, and got a link, to the interview that Kev gave to a TV camera and a presenter just after the final whistle in front of the Southend fans. Haven't seen that yet. TIA

Tangled, Lol. You said a few times we won't make the play-offs.
No,I've refined my thinking on that to clarify that we won't achieve a return to our EFL status via the play offs this season.Unless we achieve promtion what is the point of being in the play offs at all? Unless it's to put down a marker for next season.

Seems like moving the goalposts is catching around here…

Appreciate that today was just about getting the result which we did. But again we were completely unconvincing, don’t create chances, and towards the end of the game when we are breaking three on two we go for the corner flag rather than the goal. Some of our tactics were again weird - towards the end of the game we had Miley and Husin both sat in front of the defence but with Miley to the right of Husin. We should be thankful that Gatehead were awful.

Probably not the day for a post like this, but at least my position on how this team is managed is consistent, rather than only complaining after a defeat.
You really are trying to shoehorn your opinion into the performance.

It was Gatehead that created little - could you not agree it was because how we defended as well as how poor they were? Taylor and Goodliffe in particular were immense and Gus also defended better than of late.

Did you not see the cross from Hopper that Kendall was inches from, Goodliffe's 2 headers or Coker shoot over the bar when he should have hit the target in the first half. Admittedly, 2nd half we were less adventurous but it was obvious Gateshead would attack more the game went on. However, we still managed to create a couple of half chances and Goodliffes strong shot that was well saved by their keeper.

Maher has to work with the tools he has so plans accordingly. Like it or not "game management" is currently part of the game and it was no surprise to head for the corner flag. Imagine the outrage if Bonne had lost the ball going goalwards for Gateshead to break and score.

We just kept a clean sheet against a team that needed to win for a play off place, a team that had scored more goals than anyone in the league other than Barnet and York.

Over the course of the season we were the 7th best team and deserve to be in the play offs.
