What is hacking you off today?

It's not really banned. But you Westcliff old boys have got to take into consideration the less fortunate Belfairs old boys. At school, we had no heating, no electricity, no desk and chairs, and a mini chalk board each to write on, and hand me down clothes of course. By the way, even I knew what QED is.
Joking aside, attended Belfairs the year it opened and had four great years. Fantastic amenities and good teachers.Happy days1

The death of an old school friend and his wife in the Naples cable car accident. Graeme was a lovely bloke.

I know fbm and maybe others on here may too have played cricket with Graeme. He was also an imposing CH.

RIP Graeme and Elaine.
I somehow missed this when you posted it Rob, I remember Graeme from our days of meeting up and going to St Saviours discos. Sad news indeed x

Royal Mail message - @7pm. We are unable to deliver your parcel today. We will let you know when it now will arrive soon.

Total and utter tossers. No wonder they are in a state.
My cousin lives in Harlow and has to collect his post!! House next door is different postcode and they get theirs delivered!! Recently left something at his house and he said he would post it on. "Don't use First Class post" I urged due to cost and the item wasn't needed. He used second class post. Yep! It arrived at my house next day about 18 hours after it went in the letter box!

I applied for a job with Royal Mail. I got through to the interview stage with a manager who said he would let me know. Apparently I have been put on "standby". This was months ago though and heard nothing back since

Ghosting is the standard response to unsuccessful candidates these days.

It sounds rude but there is just no upside to providing interview feedback.

I wear glasses and one of the nose pads has fallen off leaving the hard plastic which holds it in place digging into the side of my nose.

Have just taken it to Boots and Specsavers in Witham where I work to see if they could replace the nose pad. Both said I have to take it back to where I bought the frames (Vision Express) and they are unable to help.

Jesus, i'm not asking for a refund on the frames. Just a simple pair of replacement nose pads which I would have been willing to pay for. Both of these have replaced it in the past (well before covid)

Try an independent place. They may actually care about securing your custom in the future and help.

I have an optician friend who always replaces them for nothing. It used to be the done thing, but there are some that now either won't do it or worse, charge for the it.

I've been happy to pay in the past although none have ever accepted the money so i've always popped £5 into the charity tin that used to sit within the shops (something that you see less and less now)

I'll be making a trip to Vision Express at Lakeside tonight after work to where I purchased the frames.

My usual opticians are based in Shenfield and are an independent one, but they they do cater more for the elderly contingent and frames used to consist of Deirdre Barlow or more recently Prue Leith glasses for the females and the males got ones that were either Dennis Taylor or Eric Morecombe.

I'm more of the Oakley variety after suffering Harry Potter glasses through school way before Harry Potter made them "cool"

Try Belsons in Witham.

Suez - The new refuse collection Co for Southend. Two weeks in now and our road has looked like a bomb site after they have collected. There is rubbish in the gutters where bags have burst and no attempt to clear it. Speed seems to be of the essence. Maybe things will improve with the introduction of the wheelie bins later this year. I've not stuck a complaint in yet to the Council as I live in hope that next week will be better. @CllrDanielCowan if you're watching, keep an eye on it mate.

Round our way we've had wheelie bins for years. They're much tidier than bin bags and look at whole lot tidier when lining the streets waiting to be emptied. Also, foxes can't get into them. However look out for:

1. Dog owners who feel they have a god given right to use any of your bins for their poo bags meaning that the bin men might refuse to empty it.
2. Companies touting for business to clean your bins. (Ours are done once a month - it's not expensive.)
