I think the most likely scenario where goal difference comes into play is if they draw and we lose on Saturday, then we will be 3 points behind and X behind on goal difference so would need to beat them by X+1

Did Gateshead sort out their ground ownership / lease issues that got them kicked out of the Playoffs last season, im pretty sure it was being worked on but dont remember seeing a conclusion? It was a typical National league farce last season.

If we were 3 points behind and X goals behind on goal difference, we would need to beat them by
X/2 + 1. Don’t forget that one goal for us improves our goal difference by one and worsens Gateshead’s by a similar amount.

Best results for me would be
Southend win
Altrincham win
Gateshead lose

Following week
We draw
Altrincham 1-0 up with five mins to go and then concede.1-1 full time

The draw will feel like a ‘win’ so we will have momentum ……

and then we ‘only’ have to win three consecutive games rather than 6

If we beat Wealdstone and Gateshead can anyone really see us winning 6 in a row?

Always a chance if we dont need to score during play and we can win on penalties. Now we have some good Wembley history scoring pens 🙃
And no one seems to rate us, all these northern teams are squabbling between themselves about playoffs.

We looked at the fixtures back in August and laughed and said it'll go down to the last one, Gateshead away 😄 we'll be totally unfancied and take them all by storm.

Whilst our season form would indicate we don't win more than two on the trot, we are definitely hard to actually beat.
Add to this we generally play jekyl and Hyde football, we tend to be lots better against teams at the top and I feel experienced players like Bonne, Goodliffe, hopper and ralph raise their game hugely for bigger games.
My worry will be our players that are less experienced with big games and whether they can cope with the pressure.
If we beat wealdstone, I think our chances improve massively, but I think they are our banana skin.

We'll know Gateshead's & Altrincham's results prior to kick off due to us being the later 5.30 fixture, not sure if this helps or hinders. If they both win then that's a lot of pressure, if we don't win then its season over. If they both lose/draw then our game turns into a major banana skin but at least we'll know it's going down to the last day regardless. Its a slightly strange position to be in as we're not really used to these different timed fixtures.

I'm very worried about our game considering Wealdstone are the 3rd team in a row that we play at home who are fighting for their lives. The two prior have been awful, boring and incredibly poor tactical games, we can't let this happen for a 3rd time! They'll come here and do exactly what the others have done, sit back and hit us on the counter. We need to learn how to break these teams down and take a bit of ownership, grab the bull by the horns as such. We've somehow managed to give ourself a chance to potentially get a play-off spot, lets not let that go with a whimper.

The crowd are going to suck the ball in the net !

I think our destiny this season is still in our own hand. To be sure get the two wins.
But my biggest concern is that too many go missing in front of a big gate at home. This Saturday all eleven on the pitch need to stand up and be counted. If they can’t put a decent shift in, I really don’t know what’s going to motivate them in the future.
I’m going to put my head on the block and go 2-0 to us. COYB’s 💙
