Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0-1 Solihull Moors

The truth is, this is Kev's squad, so...
We can’t keep skirting around the fact that Kev has to take some responsibility for these poor displays. He doesn’t make changes early enough, he brings in defensive players for defensive players and hopes that makes a difference in attacking areas and he also persists with players like bridge who is terrible.

Today he took Leon off for Bridge!!! We need to win the game and he brings on a player who only goes backwards!!

Today felt like enough is enough to me.

Message to the management and players do you really think you deserve the great home and away support with the performances we have seen this year, do you think we deserve to see the negative sideways football week after week, do you really care about promotion as much as the fans.

To the players have the management team dragged any attacking talent you had out of you.

To the supporters do you honestly believe Mayer gets the best out of his players, and do you not believe with the Cowley brothers we would be higher up the league.

Painful on a day like today that the Vanarama social media highlighting that Ollie Pearce he’s scored more than anyone in the top 5 divisions. What could we have achieved with him up top.
One of the players at the sponsors evening said some players were disappointed we didn’t sign Ollie Pearce ( I think he new him ) and he said just think where we could have been with him & the goals that Gus has scored this season ☹️

Thats the problem right there. I genuinely think that there is an overinflated definition of just how good our squad is, even our leading scorer of last year is on the bench of a team above us. I doubt any of our starting 11 would play for the top ten.

I cant remember a time when ive been so unexcited every time we sign someone, i almost expect them to be average.

Hopper is a terrible signing, unless you have 4 other strikers that are on it and you want someone on the bench to come on and see out games and add to the defence....

Parillon seems promising but for the life of me i cant understand how a young man can be knackered after one half of national league football in an entire week.....

Take mahers dubious tactics out of the equation and we are still 6 or 7 quality players away from getting promotion.

Cosu have to address the balance, our signings need to be split between promising youngsters that are subs/replacements for good first teamers.

Im dissapointed about the playoffs, but in reality my heart really didnt believe we were good enough to win it.
I agree so so much on the over rating of our squad...

Not sure why so many are blaming Hayes. That was well executed chip not a miss hit cross. Dipped just under the bar and Hayes positioning wasn't bad. No chance of tipping it over.

Just because none of our players would even attempted it, let alone actually score. Doesn't mean others can't.......If you back off enough.

Bigger crimes out there today than Hayes. Our shooting for a start. How about he two wasted short free kicks in the first half. Even worse the two short corners in injury time. Yet again our delivery was worse than pub level. Over hit or gentle balloons for the keeper to gather under no pressure. The best cross was GSM just after half time. The one that Hopper heads wide. That was the time to score and change the game.

Final ball is not down to tactics, its lack of ability. I get that p****s people off but of what gets me is the seemingly lack of any desire to make it happen. I see to many coasters and a real lack of winners.
GUS letting the guy stroll into the box was laughable.
We get unto good positions wide.....woeful crosses

Having seen York a few times this season I'd say the service a forward gets between us and York is worlds apart. He would of prob got 1/4 of the chances he's had at York at best here.

Our whole ethos and mentality is hell bent on defence rather than attack.

Our record when we concede first is conclusive.

Parillon was replaced by Walker, not Bridge.

Walker isn't great, but Parillon was spent.

What disappointed me was the lack of drive this team has to go win football match. Fair enough you go goal down that happens but the response wasn't great despite the fans getting behind the team. We definitely lack quality in the final third with no real options off the bench to change a game. We need to recruit better quality of player this summer.

I'm not as miffed as a lot on here, last week for me was a bigger pill to swallow, disgraceful dropping 2 big points like that having absolutely controlled the day.

Our big cog in the middle has been dismantled and we are going around the sides and having that slow build up once more. Husin and Moreton together is a no for me, Parillon and Keenan together in the middle is a yes for me, yet recently we've firstly played Parillon out wide on the left (Eastleigh) and today Keenan wide right it seemed. Its just not working.

At least a few weeks ago we had our main man Golding stepping into midfield with the ball and drawing players towards him, so a compensation. But the very recent games we've not had that. So defences have no need to move away from Bonne or Hopper.

We cannot lay balls for them to run onto and shoot because we pass out wide, when we come in from those wide positions with the ball or cross it, everyone is tightly marked. Youve GOT to take those defenders away from our strikers, i.e. carry the ball towards them down the middle.

Golding getting injured is a big stab in the heart of this team, poss our best player. Charley Kendal i consider to be our best striker. Those two were absolutely on fire when they got injured.

I'll continue to support the players and Kev till the end of the season, i recognise and acknowledge the many imperfections in the team and know that it will be a miracle to get into the playoffs.

But i wont discount this team yet, or Kev. Still others are losing, the craziest of results are turning up each week and we are not out of it.

Disappointed, exasperated, exhausted, raging, emotional, yeah all of those. But do a last day Grimsby and carry on the winning momentum at a crucial time would be the difference.

Today i hate football, tomorrow i pick myself up and we go again on Friday. Just got Ebbsfleet tickets. We are still massively on top in games, the screw has to turn soon i feel.

Their goal was a fluke cross that went in about the only place it could beat Hayes. Then they started time wasting from then on, to clearly show that they were going to try and hang on to the 1-0. They showed little attacking intent, and only had 2 more shots the whole game. The ref let everything go, including our obvious fouls. But unfortunately he let their time wasting go. As for us, lots of half chances. Our shooting from outside the penalty area was woeful. Either wide, over the bar, to the goalie, or even worse, to the goalie at a snails pace. Our crosses were woeful. Our corners were terrible. A minute and a half to go in extra time, and Bridge takes a stupid short corner and loses the ball. They were there for the taking. Oh for a goalscoring centre forward.
Agree that he couldn’t do anything with that goal however he got f***ing lucky after when he was in no man’s land and Ralph cleared one off the line.

Charley Kendal really wasn’t on fire ! He was just the best of a very very poor bunch.. 😢
