Post-Match Thread and Ratings Eastleigh 1-2 Southend United

Watching their goal again, why would Taylor having tracked the runner into the box, suddenly leave him unmarked to bang in the net? Its obvious who Quigley wanted to pass to after the breakaway run down the line and into the box, there isnt anyone else he can pass to except Shade !! Taylor, after such brilliant defending all game, stay with your man !
On another defensive point, Gubbins i noticed continually backtracked when they came at him with the ball, you got to go to him ! This happened three/four times.

2nd half we failed miserably to control the play, let in the early goal and continually put ourselves under pressure. Wayward passing magnified this failure and Eastleigh fed off it, smacking the post and looking threatening.

Hail the majestic SUFC blue army that sung their hearts out, that MUST have been a massive lift in that 2nd half, we were deafening in the last 10mins in our efforts to get behind the boys and bring home all three points. We turn up at these places and really do takeover, the singing under the concourse even before kickoff was a tremendous indicator of what was to come at kickoff.
800 fans arriving near Southampton in a Non-League game is epic, the support they give is relentless these days, the singing does not stop all game.

The 1st half was for every Shrimper that has had a hard time of things in recent seasons. We absolutely smashed them, just when 3 points was so important, the lads turned up looking like Brazil, i counted a glanced header that Hayes watched fly over his bar as their only shot in the first half iirc. We were all over them and there was a party in the away stand.

Keep going boys, we got this. The comeback is on and i suggest everyone get along and see this delightful team that has bonded so well since January, watching them on the telly dont give them justice, they work so hard for each other. And they got this wall of noise right behind them.

I do wish we would continue with the 433 though and try and put the game out of sight. Yes we might be a little more susceptible at the back, but it would be great if we went fro the jugular and try and win the game rather than sit back.
It would only be great if the little more susceptibility we had at the back by doing that doesn't lead to conceding goals. If it did, people would rightly say that he should have tried to close the game out.

Let's be honest, whatever he does, if we don't win, he won't be able to either, as whatever he did was wrong.

I'm fully aware that Southend gave a game on Tuesday. So prior to making belittling remarks don't assume that I'm a part time Blues fan. Those substitutions were not made due to Tuesday's game. The Eastleigh manager had outsmarted Maher with his half time substitutions and tactics and Maher felt it was best to remove LCP & KAF and defend deep after it went to 2-1. It nearly cost us.

Don't feed it. This is the same bloke who loves Ron passionately and hates Golding. I'd say it is probably our worst claimed 'supporter' ever.

Up the Blues!

I got stick yesterday on twitter for pointing out that Bridge is useless 😞
I’m not really buying the sad face. Insulting people on social media isn’t a very nice thing to do, is it? I think Southend supporters in general feel pretty protective of Bridgey. He’s a local lad who’s totally committed to our club. He stayed with us when he was out of contract and the team was in its hour of greatest need and he easily could have gone elsewhere. Useless? The player with the most assists in the National League last year? The player who’s admitted he’s struggled for form this year and yet still routinely finds two defenders committed to trying to nullify the threat he poses?

I've watched the replay several times, including the save in slow motion, it hits him and then he moves after the ball has hit him. Right place right time, rather than a save he had no right to get to imho. At the other end we'd be criticising the striker for firing straight at the keeper
Take your point but the goalkeepers union would put it down to great positional awareness. I always think back to the great Pat Jennings, it was said that so many shots seemed to be straight at him but he was simply positionally excellent. It's a skill that can go under the radar as the focus falls on the player who's 'missed' the chance as you say.

He's not useless though. He's a footballer in the fifth tier of English football,.....they all have their faults.
If we don't want him a certain Graham Coughlan would snap him up in an instant, as every time they meet he tries to get him to sign for him.
He can have him this summer

I know it's your right to have that opinion but when you look at the informal meaning of Useless it's not really surprising that you got some adverse feedback. It's not really a fair label to tag Bridge with. There's a lot of mileage between being below his best performance levels to that!

"he was useless at football"

Maybe "Bridge is more of a liability these days" is a better and fairer way to describe his recent performances and use of the English language.?

Or, as he has admitted himself, he hasn’t hit the standards he set from last season. Like a few players this season.

Which isn’t really a surprise when he had the most assists in the division, and teams double up on him now. Quite an obvious thing to do when he was our stand out creative outlet.

I’d imagine, IF, GSM is with us next season, he won’t be anywhere near as prolific as teams will be making more of an effort on him.

Bridge will be here next season, he has trigged an extension in his deal. I hope he can hit the standards from last season again, as he certainly isn’t useless.
