Breaking News Club Sold! (stc)

Heading into work now at Westpac where Justin Rees and I used to be colleagues*. Just saying 😉

*In different cities, totally different roles, never met him. But still counts right?
Message from my boss who remembers him as she worked at the main Sydney office when he was there. Transformation is a good omen right?

😉

Along with the relief (and tears), I have so many questions! I know I need to contain my excitement. The most important part is the club has survived. The future is the future and it’s very, very bright.

At last the reign of property developers owning our club has finished and, hopefully, forever. For 40yrs, starting with Anton Johnson, through Vic Jobson and ending with RM (and apparently the Benfleet Gobshyte had links to them both) we have had owners who's primary objective was to remove us from Roots Hall and build on it. All I ask from Justin Rees and his consortium is for us to be a properly run football club with all the highs and lows that go with it, although I have a sneaky suspicion that going forwards we are in for a lot more highs than lows.

Great news obvs. But, I can see the rat backing out of the deal, and only using the agreement to get some cash out of JR to pay off HMRC.

Sorry Aussie chap, changed my mind, but I’m skint, so don’t expect your money back.

Until the agreement is signed and sealed, please let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

Totally understand the concern, and if anyone can **** it up it’s Ron.

But why would he try and cling on at this stage? He clearly can’t afford to pay the creditors, and we’ll just end up being wound up in a few months when we go to court for the next HMRC debt if he stays. If his goal was to cling on until we were wound up he could have just not agreed a deal with Rees and let us be wound up today.

Maybe you will be headhunted for a role at the club?

Good point. I am overjoyed with developments of course, but holding the full celebrations until we know for sure that the rat is 100% gone…. With zero connection to SUFC. Until that day comes, he is the sort of toxic person that would fcuk us over again. …..it would be just like him to leave with a very nasty sting in the tail. Probably out of pure spite for having his fragile ego dented.

I remember the recent Scunthorpe owners statement saying that on the day of completion of his purchase the old owner emptied the clubs bank account to pay 'fees'.

Hopefully current CFO / TL can look to prevent any potential shenanigans going on

It's happened before. When Vic sold to Ron he bought himself a new Jag and his son (Andy) a new Toyota sports car through the club. Ron was paying those off for 3-4 years.

I used to live opposite Vic and saw them drive around in these cars. Very nice they were too.
