Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 1 - 3 Eastleigh

I don't like singling out an individual player for blame when other factors like unbelievably poor officials with no control on the game played a large part as well our complete inability to adapt our play against teams like Eastleigh and Boreham Wood and most teams in this league.

Our style that Kev sticks with no matter who the opposition works against the teams who also play football like Wrexham but as many have said on here and Kev has virtually admitted we will never get out of this league if we don't learn how to match the spoilers and cheats and adapt to their game.

As a footballing team and with a goalkeeper who is National League level at least we are top 3 but that isn't working and thanks to RM and spending most of the season under a transfer embargo has ment Kev and the staff's hands are tied and we can't even get in an emergency goalkeeper who is capable of playing at this level.

There are no words left to express how I feel about RM's destruction of our club and RM as a person it's beyond heart breaking 😭

After March 1st, we could all be looking back saying 'ah, that 2022/23 squad were a but good, wish we had them now' as we play park football

It's been clear we've needed a decent keeper since losing Steve then Colin, but sadly this ongoing embargo Ron has put us in means we can't get anyone else in and are stuck with Blondy as an urgent loan signing when not many options were around. The team needs the fans behind them ... don't give up on the players. Off the field antics also get to the players as much as anyone and they have pressure to reach the play offs despite the ongoing off field pressures. Let's not turn turn on them, Stan or anyone else doing their best inside the club, Ron is to blame for us being where we are. Keep believing in Kev and the lads.

Laudable. But i just watched the highlights and that third goal my nan could have saved.

Its not good enough.
I'm not for a minute, saying he couldn't have played better, he could, so could the whole team. But he's all we have at the moment. If I had slipped up like that his age, I would hope my mates would rally round.

What's the pitch like at Roots Hall? Was listening to the game yesterday and the pitch was mentioned numerous of times stating it was in really bad condition which causing players to fall over.

It looked poor, was cutting up a lot and the ball wasn't running as well as it should, hence there were a lot of high balls played.

I'm going to say a word or two in defence of Blondy. Goals 1 and 2, both had unlucky deflected bounces off our players just in front of him so I think criticising for those is a little harsh. The 3rd though, I reckon I could have saved. A shame as he'd made a really good save in each half.

Things just didn't work for us. Cav Miley was desperate to do something against his old side. Callum was desperate to score on his birthday. Poor old Demi found that pitch tough on his legs - his heart was busting to go on the kind of runs he's done in the past, but his legs just wouldn't comply. No coincidence we looked better when GSM came on.

I feel for Lomas, last time he played in the Vase, he had an excellent game and yet he couldn't even make the bench yesterday. I've expected Hobson to go for some time, so it hasn't surprised me to see him not back in the starting line up but I agree with @Sherif H about Ralph. He's not looked the same since this most recent injury.

Eastleigh were a horrid side. Nasty, niggly, cheating sh1thousery of the highest order. Aided and abetted by one of the most incompetent sets of officials I've seen. Bradders and Kev were having a good old catch up before the match, chatted for ages in the tunnel, but I thought Kev was going to lamp his old mate at one point! He was sooo wound up!

Horrible day at the office with an equally horrible result.

Blondy - 4
Demi - 5
Kensdale - 6, some fantastic cross ball passes
Lopata - 6
Ralph - 5
Bridge - 6
Taylor - 6
Miley - 6
Husin - 5
Powell - 6
Cardwell - MOTM, 7

I watched the game on the TV so I might have had a different viewpoint to many. Blondy should’ve saved the third, but Charlton’s keeper on loan from Man City did exactly the same yesterday. One of those things.

We should’ve undoubtedly scored an equaliser before their 3rd. We were unlucky the defender got there just before Murphy after great work by Cardwell and there was a moment when Husin charged towards goal and only had to pull the ball back at the right time to a queue of our players but in the end was caught in two minds, dallied and the chance was gone.

It was noticeable that we got in more once Murphy came on. His movement and his ability to sniff out the ball in the penalty area certainly made a difference. Whilst I definitely think Powell causes panic with the opposition and opens things up for others, I’d like to see Murph start next week and see how it goes with Cardwell.

With Arnie we would have10 more points and sitting in 3/4th place….because of Ron Martin we have a bloke in goal that should be playing for Wakering, Collin as well tbh….Shambles Martin , scumbag!
Did Ron Martin injure Arnold? Not sure you can blame him for two injured keepers and a disappointing loan replacement.

When we win we’re the greatest team playing brilliant football and the team is amazing.

Lose and it’s Martin’s fault and we’re the worst team on the planet.

Funny old game. Utbs!

I am not going to break the habit of a lifetime by giving my ratings or analysis of the game, I merely felt it was a bad day at the office.
My main gripe of the day was the lack of Bovril at the refreshment stand.

After recent success I was expecting some passion, action and even fireworks from our lads. The truth is it the opposition will only grow in confidence if thats the best we can offer......Some and especially those in charge need to know its results that count.

As for the game of football that also took place yesterday....See above.

That really was a pretty nightmare afternoon. It had all the ingredients of the most annoying and infuriating home defeats. Eastleigh can **** off and never come back as far as I’m concerned thanks to the disgusting conduct of their players. They can take the ref with them because he’s so incompetent he’s a danger to himself.

Next. The only way is up after that.

Ron Martin has a lot to answer for but he’s not the one who injured Arnie or signed Blondy.

When you’re spending more than is coming in the answer can’t be to just go and sign more players. You have to work within your budget. The coaching staff have got more right than wrong and are still in credit but they missed with the signing of Blondy.

Yeah, a strange one.
I wonder what their options were? I wondered much the same when signing Hyde?

Really disappointing afternoon but I chalked it up as one of those days. Can't think of many of ours who played to their usual standard. Wipe our mouths and go again next week.

I was gutted for Blondy. He's the only keeper we have, he is a young lad, and he had a mare. We can't do much about the keeper situation at the moment, we have to support him.

The problem at the time was management knew an embargo was coming. I don't know just how close we were at the time, but with no cover for Collin, someone had to be signed. Would imagine the choice was limited given we were looking for cover only.

Yesterday was desperately disappointing, but part of the problem is the defence has little or no confidence in Blondy. However, we should also remember that he is a young keeper trying to make his way in the game.

Collin is also a young keeper trying to make his way in the game and it’s night and day.
