Past Southend goal-keepers

BALDY

Striker
If you could bring any goalkeeper back to play in the present day team who would he be?

Which keeper would you least likely want to come back?!

Dan the Man, although pushed by Roycey and Freeman, and as above for Mel Capleton.
He didn't even know the laws as proven when holding on to the ball too long - remember that archaic nonsense?
Hull scored from the resulting FK, and Mel admitted afterwards he had 'forgotten' the six-second rule.

I don’t think it was the rarely enforced six second rule but the obscure picking up the ball for a second time.

Was that the match that finally got rid of Alvin?

We’ve actually produced some decent keepers, although I think Dan Bentley was a class act whilst Royce got better once he conquered being able to kick the ball over half way line.

Merv, is definitely up there.

Agree with Napster tho - Sutcliffe looks like he was an interesting guy and surely another contender for the SUFC Convicts Squad (which has plenty to choose from)

Ian (Penalty Taker) McKechnie.
Great shot stopper
Kick like a mule
Huge character- worth the entry fee just to see him in mid 60s.
Took a pen once ,hit it so hard, ball hit the bar and bounced back behind him standing on the penalty spot
Cue for a cavalry charge back to the other end to stop the oppo from scoring from our pen
Never a dull moment
RIP Ian McKechnie

John Keely should have been one of our best if he hadn’t been driven out by the boo boys of their days, went onto drive a taxi was then picked up by Brighton and has made a living out of football as a coach until recently.
