Official Match Thread Southend United v Bradford City

I said chances. Please point me to where I used the words ‘clear cut’.

RHF and ANG both had shots from the edge of the area, both off target. RHF had a free-kick from 18 yards out, couldn’t even beat the wall. Akinola had 2 headers that were easily saved by the keeper. We crossed the ball into the box about 30 times, most of them couldn’t even beat the first man. We did loads of through balls that were too heavy and went straight through. These aren’t formation issues. The problem isn’t that we don’t create chances. It’s that we’re useless at making a final ball and finishing them off.
Elvis missed the goal from the easiest.
Hackett's wasn't the hardest either.

statistically speaking he is worse than that, the only thing I can imagine keeping him in a job this year is the fact that even Ron has a conscious, and realises that he to is to blame, incidentally I am pretty sure before the famous December run we went on, where we won the championship/FA Cup/Milk Cup/The Clap MM was extremely close to being shown the door ... I would love love love love, for My club that me and my family support, to turn up and not be over ran every week, I would love to see us competing against opposition, I would love to see a bench where you could say those three will make a difference, what is happening to us now, on this extremely difficult and pressured time, is something I am finding really hard to take and stomach right now > I am absolutely gutted about what is happening to our club and it breaks my heart to be frank.. I don't know who's to blame? but if Moseley is saying he is happy with the squad he has, then that can only confirm he must be the cause in that case.

Well said. I don't think we can blame the embargo anymore, we have a squad that should be doing better, at least mid table in lg2.

This isn't Ron's fault anymore, the embargo has been lifted and now we're left with a poor manager. I guess you could say it's Ron's fault appointing him, however, the facts tell the truth, MM is our worst ever manager.

I like Hobson and he has undoubtedly come on a treat but as I have pointed out before he has the unusual ability to fall off a sofa ! Twice a match in the last 3 games lost his footing and either resulted in a goal or could have, Hes not so balanced on a slippery surface its like watching Bambi on ice

What’s frustrating is that the defence has been tinkered with and experimented with when we finally looked half decent and weren’t conceding much. I’m not sure what MM was going for, I’m not laying much else on him at this point but that’s baffling and not sure why he’s done that. Tonight we looked weak at the back, gaps everywhere. Think the whole squad also needs shooting practice. Otherwise .. well we’re (still) not cut adrift and I don’t agree he should go. Nowhere near, we need stability.
Playing away, when a point would be acceptable may help. Solid at back and some midfield cover and we move on?

I'm not sure we see the word 'chance' the same way.
So how about: 'he missed a good chance there!'
RHF's free-kick I'll give you, but the rest? Chance = good or potential possibility.
There was none of that in the others.

While I try to see all the good in MM and hear good things, I'm struggling with the obsession of not playing a back 4 that works to our strengths, gives us control of the middle and just really don't understand his substitutions even if caused by an injury niggle to white.
What we were doing gradually got less and less effective as the game went on, and MM carried on doing it. Though to be honest when aquah came on I had no idea what our shape was and it looked like the players didn't either. I
Any momentum we had it feels has been wasted. Any settled formation approach we had it feels has been wasted.
I think MM may be on slippery ground after the next couple of games if he doesn't manage to refind that momentum and formation that got us going a bit.
He has the players to get draws at least with a solid back line. A striker would be good but don't see it happening.
The only way we'l achieve 3rd from bottom is if the MM tinkering stops now. Some of the ANG and RhF dribble till you lose it stuff needs to stop now too.
Oh and Elvis - remember you're a pro player with two feet not one.

So sad ..I do think we are heading headlong to the national league....my first game was a 4 v 2 home win v Southport in 1978 ...I never thought we would be playing teams of that stature ever again ..it actually breaks my heart watching a club we all love send out a death rattle . Should 2e sack the manager? I actually don't think that is the answer ...I do feel that vale on sat ..2 clubs on downward spirals is the crunch especially after zero return on this run of home games . A defeat there and I think we will go down

When conceding 3 and only scoring 1 (missing chances too) it's easy to look at those areas and blame them.

However, the midfield contributes so much to both ends being solid and proactive.

Going into a match with Demi as part of a midfield 2 is setting up to fail. It's not his fault, but those knees cripple his ability to play that role. I felt so sorry for Kyle Taylor today! He was basically in there on his own. Therefore, the attackers weren't getting the ball in the right areas and the defense had no protection.

I feel for MM a bit though, as Olayinka glued play from midfield to attack and Macca and Dieng provided a bit of protection. Our squad depth was embarrassing today. We are lacking (have done for years)in any quality in midfield, and that is hurting us big time.

Everyone is talking about bringing a striker in (rightly so) but is that going to solve all our problems? Probably not.

One of Akinola’s headers was from 8 yards out, how is that not a chance? I’m not saying he was expected to score it, but it’s still a chance. The same with RHF and ANG’s off target shots from the edge of the box. Not every chance has to be clear cut.

Either way, the point still remains that our final ball is woeful. A formation doesn’t change that because it’s been the same in 4 at the back formations.

Wake up people, this manager is bad, I keep saying it. He now has his own squad that he's brought to the club and we're still bad and don't have a clue. MM is as bad as Bond and Powell, in fact MM is worse. He's taking us down into none lg football for the first time in our 104 year history.

I'm sick and tired for the love for this guy, he's a very very poor manager.
Not quite true we were a non League club from 1906 to 1920 and we were formed in 1906 so 114 years old.

We have had 3 very difficult games. Cambridge and Mansfield are two of the best teams in the division. Bradford are also a decent team that probably should be far higher in the table.

We werre unlucky against Cambridge having dominated the first half. We could of got a point against a very good Mansfield team that has had significant investment.

Today was poor however we were missing two of our most influential players.

I still believe we are good enough to escape relegation if we are able to get 1 or 2 decent signings.

My criticism of MM is that the youth players that did so well under Sol have either disappeared or gone backwards examples being Phillips and Clifford.
