Breaking News Francis offer accepted

What we have to remember is that it may not be SUFC that insist on an 'undisclosed' tag, the buying club might be the ones not willing to spill the beans.

As an aside, i also remember that in the dim and distant past a thread in which is was quoted that FA or football league rules state that the fee between clubs should officially be kept private. Not sure if it was this site or another one or if anyone can confirm it because i cant be bothered at the moment to go trawling through FA and Football league laws and rules....

Well remembered! I mentioned this in this thread back in September 2008.

I have also just done some trawling, and have managed to find that clause 42.2 of the Football League Regulations states that:

All transfer fees shall be treated as private and confidential.

So, I'm sorry to say to the conspiracy theorists that if Francis does go for an undisclosed fee, it won't be down to Uncle Ron being on the make or wanting to keep us in the dark, it's just Football League rules!

But it does beg the question how do some transfer fees (like Barney's, for example) get out into the public domain? I guess it's probably because journalists get hold of the figure somehow. They'll have no qualms about making it public.

Well, when Barnard joined us from Spurs, the fee was initially divulged on the website and then hastily removed.

I am interested to know who has come in for him, if its not a southampton, wednesday or charlton Im not sure they will pay him what he is on now, ala posh last season we accepted the offer but posh couldnt match the wage he on, we could yet be stuck with him if he decides to sit on the last year of his contract.

Can we not find out the fee when the accounts are released?

I think transfer fees are just lumped together, aren't they, ie total spent on transfer fees in year and total received?

But to give Ron some credit, he does have a good track record of telling us how much players were bought and sold for, albeit many months after the event, and usually when he's trying to defend his position from a great deal of criticism, usually with the help of pretty graphs and pie charts.

I think what SS said is probably right, no doubt Ron will mention at some point in time how much we will get for Francis.

Had a text from a Brighton supporting friend this evening, saying they are signing Francis. They have lost their right back Calderon to Southampton. He says he has been mentioned in their local press the past two weeks

I don't buy this 'we won't sign' anyone lark that keeps cropping up. Why? Because we don't have any option this year. It's very different to last year as we're now about to start a big transition and therefore there will be a big overhaul, which will have to involve incomings.

Exactly. We'll be extremely active in the transfer market this season once we've sorted out the budget (which means once we've been able to shift at least three of the four big earners). We're in a completely different position to last year when we had nine or ten players earning big money leaving barely anything left over for the rest of the squad.

thats how I see it tbh, tilly will have a player budget he will use it, the fees we will get in will prob go to propping the club up for a while, lets say 100k for franno, a combined 200k for barrett, macca could ensure wages and the like get paid for a few months at least, I reckon 10 players in this summer, will be very very interesting

No, you're all mental. "TefRon" will pocket EVERY LAST PENNY to buy a '10 plate Cessna that he'll pilot over Roots Hall on the opening day of next season bearing the slogan "I SOLD UR PLAYERZ. LULZ"

Also says we get £350,000 if Hooper goes to Celtic for 2mill and we also have a 20% sell on if Bailey moves on this summer. So lets hope there is plenty of movement on these players. Surprised it is Brentford though they must be going to match his wages as well so they must have a few bob
