Southend United's Under-18 side lost 4-1 at Brighton & Hove Albion yesterday, Sam Higgins scoring the Shrimper's consolation 13 minutes from the end from a Stuart O'Keefe free-kick. The side featured captain Tom Hopkins, who had previously been on work experience at BGB Southern League Cheshunt, and second-years Dan Harvey and Johnny Herd. A full report will be in the usual places over the next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, Luke Thurlbourne completed another 90 minutes at Blue Square Conference South club St Albans City as they romped to an important 3-0 away win at Weston-super-Mare. The tenacious midfielder was one of two Saints players cautioned in the match, his third booking in five appearances for the Hertfordshire team.
In the Ryman League Premier Division, David Obaze and James Lindie both came off of the substitutes bench (in the 73rd and 80th minutes respectively) as the Hawks held off a brave comeback from Harrow Borough to win 3-2. The pair had both played the full 90 minutes in Tuesday night's 2-1 defeat at Wealdstone, Lindie involved in two goalscoring opportunities, heading over from six yards in the first half and then setting up James Bunn with an excellent right-wing run, his team-mate rattling the crossbar (from the official Harlow Town website).
Finally, Rhys Henry came off of the substitutes' bench as Cheshunt were thrashed 5-1 by Corby Town. He played the final 39 minutes after starting both of their previous outings, Cheshunt losing 3-1 to Bashley and 7-1 to Yate Town, two fixtures that centre-back Hopkins had also appeared in.
