Dont know if this thread has been done before??but here goes!!
In the "old days"..we played at easter, sometimes 3 games in 4 days...bloody brill

My favourite Easter was the 71-72 season..
Cannot remember the scores, beat Doni & Southport, drew with lincoln i think..
But we played Good friday at home v Doncaster.R. a Great picture turns up on the Zone, now & then,of King Billy after scoring at that game..bog roll in mid-air-..North bank,Pak FULL..if you want to see the old days,North bank..PAK-ED..then look at that picture.
Then on saturday,we went to Lincoln City, away, i think one coach ..Brother Grimms...
We were all searched and warned by police ..At ROOTS HALL..they expected trouble with blues fans, because of a game a few years before..there was no trouble, although LCFC had loads of lads turn up
The coach got bricked after the game,in Lincoln, Micky B. getting out of the coach and chasing a lad who he thought "bricked" us..punched him in the face ..and then was told it was not him,he was doing only doing his paper round...so Micky gave him SUFC badge ..sorry.
Our coach got even bricked again, the second time,as we reached Southend,by the industrial area.Eastwood??
Then on Easter monday ,we were off to Southport...two coaches..yep 2...
Only remember..i think 2 Leigh Comm cars turned up ,early.who met us there...we all walked into the Southport "END",the only time those days, that i remember, that a home team never had "lads " in their own end.Im sure we won..
They were the best times,late60s,70s early 80s..at least for me

Probably 1980-81 for me.

A 2-1 win at home to Bournemouth on Good Friday and then an away win 2-1 at Aldershot the following day.

Remember it being baking hot at Aldershot.

A week later it snowed at Torquay!

Been up in the loft..looking at my old progs...
Another Easter SPECIAL!! was the 74-75? season...
Brighton &H A at home:winking:..news at ten!!..Come near the end of the game, not many left in the PAK-North bank..
We then played Walsall away,...did not go
then Bank holiday BHA away!!:nope: IF you all are going to BRIGHTON..clap your hands ..loads did...none went..the "few"did

I went to both the Lincoln and Southport games and recall our coach breaking down the A127 at Eastwood meaning a walk back into Southend when big Ronnie got a lecture from a copper due to singing so we certainly did not loose. Seem to recall we won 0-1 on the Monday at Southport so certainly a good Easter.

Think one year, 1974?, we won two consecutive games on Good Friday and the Saturday 5-0 and 5-1 or the other way around. Think both results came out of the blue as we were struggling at the wrong end of the table at the time.

Yep, that was mine too. It was 1973. Guthrie and Best filled their boots. Luverly jubberly.

Yes we must have been and I remember the Police coming onto the coach it seemed almost to scare us off going to Lincoln something I had not experienced before or since. Yes Ronnie went to Lincoln and we joked on numerous occasions later about his lecture for being inconsiderate. I remember the window being bricked but do not recall Micky B. Chris D I still see at Roots Hall.

1973, Chesterfield & Port Vale, or vice versa!. Cant remember. Sure we were 5-0 up on the Saturday as well, before conceding a late goal.
Back then most teams played 3 times over the 4 day Easter period. No one used to moan about fatigue etc!.

Wont go into details again, as we covered this 'adventure' a year or so back. But results wise, we lost 0-2 at home to Brighton, then won 2-0 at Walsall, and same again at Brighton on the Monday!.

WHAT!! we won 2-0
i am sure you were as quite as i was!!! Which was bloody sad, after they came to R.H
How did you get there? As i wrote before, you did as well..went by car, with Leigh .Comm..to BHA,but dont remember how i got back..maybe still upset with our "turnout"

My personal favourite Easter, is way back in 1965-66, probably because it was the first one when I saw all three matches.

It started with a 5-2 home win over Gillingham with Eddie Firmani scoring a hat-trick and Ray Smith getting the other two. We then made the return to Gillingham where the chant was "we beat Gillingham 5-2, five, five, five (showing all five fingers on one hand) two, two, two (giving the Gillingham fans a two fingered gesture) sadly we lost this 1-0. Then we went to QPR, my second visit there and again we lost this 2-1.

Perhaps not the most memorable for most people, but as a young impressionable teenager these matches were magical and I remember them better than games I've seen this season.

For me it has to be 1990 Easter Monday away to the scum beat them 2-0 to just about put them out of the league and to maintain our promotion push. Never has a victory felt so good 2000 Southend fans sang this song non-stop for 90 minutes:

'Singing colu are going out the League, singing colu are going out the league there be one team in Essex, one team in Essex in the merry month of May'

Can you whistle the tune so I can remember how it went .

I remember that snow. Coach broke down coming back and we were stranded at Exeter Services for hours. Nearly got myself nicked for asking a copper why he had a tit on his head.

1988 was a good one. We beat Wigan 3-2 on Good Friday at the Hall in the old Division 3 after being 2-0 down. I remember Martin Ling scoring a lovely left-footed volley to equalise and then a late David Crown thunderbolt to win the game. We then went to Aldershot on the Easter Monday and Crowny scrambled a very late winner from a corner melee. We looked like we were going down until this weekend but won five of our last seven games to stay up including a 4-0 win v Blackpool on the last day of the season. The Echo dubbed it 'The Great Escape.'

If you went in one of the Leigh Comm cars you would know what happend at the station after the game .

Remember that one, it was April Fools Day, and we kicked off at 7.45 pm. Wigan were in the promotion hunt, and as you say, we were fighting relegation.
At half time there was no way I could see us salvaging anything from the game, but the rest is history!. Think they had the ex Liverpool defender Alan Kennedy playing for them that night.
If i'd left at half time, and after the game asked anyone the final score, and they said we'd won 3-2, i'd have thought it was a late April Fool's wind up!.
All 5 goals were scored in the North Bank end, and Wigan had about 50 fans in attendance.
