Ref Watch .... Yeovil away ... over the hill.

Mick

Life President
Man in charge tomorrow at Yeovil is Keith Hill from Hertfordshire. He is the FA's Regional Referees Manager for the East of England. Does that mean he is a top official? I'm afraid not.

He is in his 11th season and is, in my opinion, way past his best (which wasn't very good anyway). I'm sure his position has much to do with his extended run on the list as better officials seem to have been culled during this time. I do sometimes wonder if he benefits from positive discrimination.

This will be his 15th League and Cup match in charge of Southend but only his 3rd away match. By and large, we have done quite well with him in charge winning far more than losing. His matches have generally been littered with pickiness, inconsistency and plenty of cards, some justified.

"Highlights" of his Southend matches: the home defeat by Kingstonian in the Cup (Roget off), home win over Darlington (Searle off), the recent away defeat at Palace (one of his more ok games) and the ever so forgetable 0-0 draw at Oxford in the Cup.

John Busby from Oxford and Neil Radford from Worcester will be helping him to keep order whilst Mr Vaughan is on standby as 4th official.

Didn't Neil Radford from Worcester play cricket for England?

Keith Hill. I don't actually think he is a bad referee. He has found his level, which is L1 and L2, and he knows it. So he doesn't actively go looking to get noticed. I've always had him down as one of the more consistent ones.

A very recent interview by Mr Hill:

NCFA: Switching to your own personal goals, what do you hope to achieve over the coming seasons?

KH: One of my big aims was to get to 10 year’s as a National List Referee. Now I’ve achieved that I want to maintain my performances, my table position and hopefully be involved in the play-offs at the season’s end. To go to the new Wembley would be brilliant. I am still seeking the opportunity to progress that one more level to become a Premiership referee. Longer term, I hope to referee at the top for as long as I can and be able to look back and say I enjoyed every minute.

Whilst we are on the subjects of ref's, i see Mr Singh made another blopper last weekend, but i cant for the life of me remember what game it was, think it was in L2. Where is he this week?!

Think it was in the Shrews game, 2 defenders clashed heads, didn't stop the game and the oppo went on and scored.
