Ref Watch .. Wright man for the Col U derby ?

Mick

Life President
The referee for Saturday's derby match is Kevin Wright from Yaxley near Peterborough.

His last Southend appointment was away at Scunthorpe earlier this season. This will be his 6th Southend League match in his 6th season as a League referee, although he missed virtually all of last season through injury but seems to be up and running okay this season. Also refereed one Southend Cup match.

His 22 matches this season have produced just 46 yellows and 3 reds and virtually all his appointments have been Championship or League One which means he is quite highly rated.

Does not skimp on his cards but is generally a fair official who likes to keep the game flowing if given a chance. A good choice for this match.

His debut League match was actually at Roots Hall for the victory over Cheltenham at the start of the 03/04 season and the pick of his other matches was our 1-0 win over Forest a couple of years back.

His assistants will be ex-League referee, Ray Lee from Brentwood and John Hayto from Chelmsford. Gary Evetts from Hertfordshire is 4th Official.

Didn't Tes Bramble get sent off in the Cheltenham game which finished 2-0 in 03/04 because that was a good decision or am I mistaken again Mick?

'fraid so. He'd have done well to get sent off; he only came on for the last 5 mins.

Once again a relatively late change to one of the officials. Assistant referee John Hayto from Chelmsford is off the game, being replaced by Steve Ross who has a somewhat longer journey to make from Lincolnshire

It's not wierd at all and he hasn't been taken off because they've just realised he's from Essex. The other AR who is still doing it is also from Essex.

Would have preferred it if it had been that other well known lino Brent Wood from Rayleigh.
