Well, I've only been to South Africa once - I spent a few days in Durban - but I thought it was a beautiful place, and would certainly happily go there on hols. If I had tickets to a World Cup game as well... well, that would be perfect.

:)

Matt,
Durban is as you say an excellent place for a(short) holiday.FWIW I think anyone just flying in or out for games won't have any serious hassle. The problems are likely to start if groups of supporters are tempted to stick around, hire a car and then travel independently to games.

I was told that England is the reserve nation for the world cup, so if something big was to happen between now and June which would prevent South Africa from hosting the world cup, it would be held in England.

Good point, also and while I accept it's a much smaller scale than the World Cup, but there's been 1000's of English cricket fans in South Africa of late, and we've not heard of any problems.

And tens of thousands of rugby fans for the Lions last summer as well.

Still it must be terrifying when you've grown up in England where we've never experienced first hand terrorism such as the IRA, Al Qaeda or Strictly Come Dancing.

I only missed Kazakstan and Ukraine away out of all the Qualifiers so have enough loyalty caps to guarentee tickets for all England games......

Inflated flights, internal flights (500% increase), accomodation (x4), Tickets twice as expensive as previous world cup, Saftey issues and the fact its a huge country to travel round.....I had to opt out for financial reasons

Gutted - but Its not an easy or safe place for the greatest sporting event in the world. Roll on the next Qualifiers
