with what has been going on with the shootings at the African Nations, would you go to the World Cup in South Africa?

Personally even if I could, I wouldn't as I think the perpitrators of the latest attack would turn on the fans.

So no thanks for me unless its held somewhere safer.

Yeah i would definitely

The world cup is the biggest tournament in the world and would really like to go, even if we do go out again on pens..

I went to the African Nations Cup held in South Africa in 1996 with the WSC's boys and(one or two)girls. There's NO way I'd go back there for the World Cup.
Even in '96 security was a problem and with the World Cup being a much bigger, genuinely global event it was always an accident waiting to happen.
There will be a few tasty car jack stories etc in June of that I'm sure.:scared:

Hey, now here's an idea ... if those stories were put into an e-book, maybe the new technology could facilitate a soundtrack to go with it? I think there'd be a place for The Clash in there for sure ...

"I been to the place where every white face is an invitation to robbery
Sitting here in my safe European home, don't wanna go back there again ..."

Don't know about SA, but some of the action in pubs at home might get tasty too. Don't upset those Algerian guys! :)

i went to the france world cup with my old man and it was a great experience. no way i would go to south africa though, i have always thought by having there you are just asking for trouble. theres going to muggings, kidnappings maybe the lot.

Yeah I saw all 6 World Cup games in Montpellier and England play Tunisia in Marseilles.
The only trouble was in Marseilles but you're not really comparing like with like here.

Should be fairly quiet in Spanish bars though with recent African immigration (eg at about 22% in Vic)maybe lively in some areas too!
You're welcome to come and sample the atmosphere if you like.:)

Cheers, chief - I think the limits on my World Cup touring will be to Aldeburgh this year though ... Ron's got more in his war-chest than I have in my footy expenditure account! :'(

Not going to SA because of trouble in Cabinda is like not going to London because of the Basque Seperatists (except Spain is closer to London than Joburg is to Cabinda)

Good point, also and while I accept it's a much smaller scale than the World Cup, but there's been 1000's of English cricket fans in South Africa of late, and we've not heard of any problems.
