Would the real David Morley please stand up?

Beefy

Life President
MACCLESFIELD skipper David Morley was Christmas shopping when he found out his team had drawn champions Chelsea in the FA Cup.

His team-mate Matty Tipton sent him a chance text.

"Oh my God, we've got Chelsea," he whispered to his wife Natalie, half-thinking it must be a wind-up.

"If you can't get United away, then Chelsea is, I suppose, the next best thing," said the 29-year-old St Helens-born centre-back.

That was a month ago, since when the Silkmen have won six and drawn one of their last seven league games to revitalise a season that had been heading for a fast exit from the Football League.

Only now has the elegant defender, nicknamed Rio, started thinking about the prospects of stopping Didier Drogba and Andriy Shevchenko and it is a challenge the former Manchester City player is relishing.

Chance of a Lifetime for Macc

Surely some kind of mistake....?

I think Morley is definitely a poor man's Rio Ferdinand.

I don't think there was any doubt that he had the talent, what he lacked was the concentration. I can't recall another Southend centre-half who looked so comfortable and relaxed on the ball. This is probably a good thing as Dangerous Dave was far too relaxed and would then casually gift the opposition a goal. Sadly this was pretty much every other week.

Other than being comfortable on the ball yet prone to silly mistakes, Dangerous Dave according to this article clearly shares other things in common with the Peckham Pimp, such as going shopping at inopportune moments.
