Pre-Match Thread Wolves v Southend United

Think Mr Sturrock will make a few changes tonight:

Evans
Clohessy Bilel Barker Gilbert
Simpson Grant Easton Spencer
Paterson Corr

That should make us more competitive. Defensively I do not think he has any confidence in Prosser or Phillips so the lets put some experience beside Bilel. I am really not sure about Clohessy and have yet to see Gilbert. Corr and Paterson up front with Spencer supporting.

Wonder if he'll go back to 433 myself as we looked more solid, especially for Wolves.

Interesting - and I dont think anyone mentioned it - but the pre-match interview on BBC Essex, Sturrock said he was perhaps being 'too clever' for players in this division with his formation, which is why he went back to 442..? Anyways...

I think it would be harsh to drop Morris for a high profile game, he deserves his place and its not as if he is 'tired', and Evans hasnt done anything yet to show he should come in and play against a Premiership team, so I'll go...

Morris
Clohessey Moshni Phillips Gilbert

Simpson Grant Bouzid

Hall Corr Patterson

Think Barker and Easton could do with a rest. Hall deserves a chance as I think Soares has been poor and I'd persevere with Paterson, though I thought he had a stinker Saturday along with everyone else!

Clearly the team needs a shake up from Saturday. I do hope that he soon settles on his best 11 though and isn't planning on rotating too much. At this level I think a settled side who know how each other play and have gelled is more likely to be succesful.

Playing 4-3-3 against premiership oppostition away from home would be suicidal! I would go with 4-5-1

Morris

Clohessy Bilel Philips Barker

spencer simpson easton grant hall

Corr

It's the point I've made whenever people have clamoured for a different formation over the years. It's difficult to ask players who have played 4-4-2 for 15 years through school and beyond and who know exactly where they should be on the pitch in all times in that formation to suddenly use a different formation. Maybe if coaching in this Country was a bit more sophisticated and people didn't get pigeon-holed into a position at the age of 12 then they'd have the tactical and technical ability to adopt different formations.

That said I think he might go back to the 4-3-3 tonight. The team pboreham has posted looks about right.

Yep, I'd agree with the team selected by PBoreham there... We need to rest Barker and Easton for Friday night ideally, and both Moshni and Bouzid need game time.

Semantics!! 433 is what I call the '451' just a fancy modern way of saying it :) The two wide men push on to make a 3 when attacking and cover back to make a 5 when defending... your formation is no different to mine.

A genuine 451 probably wouldnt have spencer on the right - you'd go maybe Simpson on the right and perhaps Herd on the left to act more defensively and leave Corr pretty isolated.

From a Wolves perspective it would seem that they're going with a youth paring of Danny Batth and Sam Winnall. Will be interesting to see if the rest of the squad is made up of youth or wether we will see the likes of Sylvan-Ebanks-Blake and Michael Kightly.

I'm sure after tonight Kightly will realise that he made a big mistake by leaving the Shrimpers. When he sees the firepower we have at our disposal he will weep.

I would like to see all those who have had little game time so far get a run out.

So for me.

Evans

Clohessy Mohsni Phillips Gilbert

Soares Simpson Bouzid Hall

Corr Spencer

Couldn't give a toss if we get stuffed. They need a run.

I think Phillips is struggling with an injury - may not travel. I would like to see the following:

Morris

Clohessy Mohsni Coughlan Barker

Simpson

Spencer Grant Easton Hall

Corr

Think it is a great opportunity to get some of the lads match practice so would like to see Bilel, Gilbert, Hall, Bouzid, Spencer etc.

However, if starts with Corr and Sturrock up front I will hang myself after witnessing how poor they were together against Aldershot!

I imagine Wolves will be ******** themselves from kick off knowing this has real potential for an upset. The likes of Ebanks-Blake, Doyle and Berra will be quaking in their boots when they walk down the tunnel and see household names like Corr, Prosser and Sturrock warming up. I cant believe the bookies are even offering odds on them.

Score tonight ?

At the risk of the men in the white coats taking me away ......

Bilel Mohsni to score 1st & Southend to win 2.0 .... 500-1 at bet 365 !!!

Ryan Hall will be unleashed to terrorise the Wolves reserves + Bilel to notch from a set piece

Get in there !!!!
