Today's referee is Roots Hall debutant, Steve Rushton from Stoke (no, I don't know why they send a referee all the way from Stoke on a bank holiday Monday to referee a match between two southern League 2 sides!).

In his third season, he has refereed Southend just once before in the high scoring defeat at Bristol Rovers two years ago when he cautioned two from each side and sent off the currently free-scoring Moussa.

His card count this season is below average for yellows but above average for reds. He has 83 yellows and 6 reds from 30 games.

His father was also a League referee in yesteryear. (You can do your joke again, Harry)

His assistants will be Matt Foley from London and Gavin Muge from Bedford with Adrian Sannerude once again making the journey down the A12 from Lowestoft to wield the numbers board.

Was quite harsh on Moshni I thought today, as well as missing a few other fouls (for both sides). Luckily enough he didn't have any big calls to make and think all yellows cards were pretty fair.

Didn't get much help from the lino in front of the East Stand - I think he was auditioning for a job at Old Trafford next season - I think Mr Ferguson would have liked what he saw.:winking:
