why oh why oh..........

Having returned from Leicester, I have to say that I feel somewhat disheartened. I keep telling myself to put things in perspective, that there is little disgrace in a one nil defeat away at Leicester but it was the manner in which we seemed to lose our way that concerns me most. I would wager that we had the majority of the possession. we likely had more of the ball in the final third. What we didnt do (and were guilty of the same in each of the three away league games) is penetrate with any conviction. All too often we flatter to deceive, knocking the ball around nicely but we are constantly looking for that elusive killer ball rather than putting the ball into the danger area. then when we do, our strikers (freddy included) are just so leaden footed that they do not ever look like getting onto the end of anything. Our most impressive striker today was Spinner!!

We are so shot shy it is unbelievable. I dont want to moan, I am certainly not one of the West Stand moaners, but I am concerned that we will get caught cold if this continues. On the positive side, we have two home matches now before we go the The Hawthorns, if we still have a 100% home record when we go there, please forget I ever said any of this!

I completely disagree on Prior, a first as I always respect agree/ with your posts.

I think we have the lowest shots on target stats in the CCC.We play pretty football, it looks very nice and you start to think great but I have come to realise that the likes of Palace,QPR and Leicester are quite happy to let you do this,as long as they arer winning so we think we are putting on a good show, and everything will be OK.

Did anyone really think we could come back once we went one-nil down? ( from another corner).

I thought we really missed Gower when he went off.

I am also going to produce a ''I've seen Campbell-Ryce pass'' T shirt. Anyone interested?

Know what you mean - during the 2nd half, JCR got played in down the line and was past his man - Freddy and Paynter were 2 v 2 in the box and waiting for any sort of cross tossed in.

Instead, JCR checked back and looked for support or to beat his man again. Very frustrating and we were guilty of it all day....

There is no disgrace in losing at Leicester, but you're right. It was the way in which we lost today that's a concern. We played well at Palace, but I was worried then that it may have been a 'cup final' performance. You know, our first away game in the Championship and we really raised our game. It was always going to difficult to maintain that level, as it proved today and at QPR.
We're in this division because we deserve to be. I don't want to go to places such as Leicester, Palace, WBA, etc, and just be happy that we're there. I'm sure Tilly & Brush feel the same.

Good point - dont think we should keep saying 'oh we were unlucky' - like you would after a plucky 3rd round FA cup game.

This is OUR division now and if we go to places like Leicester and play sh!t then we should be vilified by the fans, press, management team etc the same way as we do in any other division.

Tilly is treating the boys with cotton wool again I see by saying 'we competed, are as good as Leicester, we were unlucky etc'... I just hope like you say Welly that it doesnt become a case of sob-stories all season and we start getting tough when we realise we deserve to be competing at this level.

Very few managers will slate their players or the team as a whole in public, whether that be in the press or on TV. I suspect what Tilly says in public for the benefit of you and I is very different to what he tells the players at half time and on the training ground.

Tilly isn't blind and if he sees a player under performing or the team constantly not reaching the high standards of commitment and performance he demands then I'm certain he wouldn't hesitate to tell that player or the team exactly that. The fact he doesn't repeat his private team talks and comments is par for the coarse in professional football management.

TBH I was trying to be ironic with this statement. What I was getting at was that at least Prior went hell for leather at the goal. His direct approach (because he was devoid of any other ideas i suppose) was in contrast to the rest of the forwards on view.

I also thought that we lost the game once Gower went off yesterday. My concern now is that in each of the last two seasons Gower has been playing really well only to get injured and then lose form woefully when he returns. Lets hope he recovers quickly and without a loss in form or confidence this time.
