Why do you go to games?

What is the primary reason you attend Southend matches?

  • To see us win

  • To be entertained

  • To support my club, regardless of how they play or the result

  • Because I've got the season ticket, I may as well

  • To see my friends and/or family

  • To get away from family

  • It's something to do

  • To engage in banter with opposition fans

  • I only go to away games as I love different grounds

  • Other (please state)

Think about this please, but there is no particular need for elaboration or justification of your choice unless your response is "Other".

So, pure and simple - why do you attend?

I voted other.
I have always loved football and Southend have been my local team for over 60 years.
For some reason, my wife thinks I'm insane, I look forward to every game. When I used to play I hated losing and always gave 100% and it is the same watching. As long as I can see total commitment from players and staff I can live with defeat.
This season has been a huge frustration and I feel there is a lack of commitment and effort.

I started the season with ‘to support my club no matter the result’ but having witnessed less that 2 or 3 good halves of football, the constant sideways and backwards across defence..lack of attacking intent, failure to change things when they aren’t working and strange team selections, I’m afraid I now only go as I have a season ticket ….never thought I would get to this point.

Not sure which box to tick from all of that !

I voted to be entertained and see my footballing friends. However this may not be the case next season, for after 50+ years of watching the shrimpers I am now finding them depressing. I find that after all this time that I am now questioning the justification to renew my season card or spend Saturday afternoons being bored to tears.

So the question was "Think of the primary reason...", indicating that only one reason was wanted, which is why there wasn't a multi-vote option in the original poll.

Oh well, never mind.
