Who'll be our playmaker now Gower's gone?

Suffolk Blue

Manager
Mark Gower was often the only player in the side with any guile last season. King Kev could open up a team on occassion but he's gone too (he has hasn't he?).

So who'll be the creative midfielder in the team now?

Scannell - showed flashes and I've got high hopes of him
Macca - subtle touches aren't really his strong point are they?
Moussa - still don't think he's ready yet

or has Tilly got someone lined up already; Gower leaving can't have come as too much of a shock can it?

Think we will have to asses everything once the wheeling and dealing of pre season is over. For the moment like you no one really stands out as a key playmaker. Bailey maybe but obviosuly the chances of him bein here come kick off on the 9th august is as likely as me winning Miss World.

I think the following would seem to indicate that they have been looking at a new player or two to come in to replace Marky G:

"At least we now know where the gaps are in our side now and we will step up the hunt for new signings.

"A few enquiries have already been made because we thought Mark might leave, so we will now stoke up those irons in the fire."

Personally, I think Scannell will be a good player but whether he will quite do it this season remains to be seen and I can't see him being our number 1 choice when he has only just made the step up into fully professional football.

Bailey isn't a playmaker. Great runs into the box etc.. but not really creative.

With Gower and Maher gone, we are left with a lot of hard working 'hustle and bustle' players. Most give 100% every game but we need someone to open up defences.

I don't think we have anybody who can beat a man and get a cross or shot in like Gower did so IMO we'll have to bring two players in, one on each of side of midfield? Haven't seen enough of Scannel to form an opinion but am surprised he didn't play more last season. His fitness was a concern apparently but the step up from non league to league football isn't that massive anymore (Eastwood and Kightly spring to mind)!

No-one is the current squad has anywhere near as much as the G-Man so I think were going to have to work very hard in the summer to bring in one or two players that can create.

These are the most elusive players in the league alas. Thats why we had high hopes for Black, as we thought he might balance Gower out on the other wing and add that dimension.

I honestly believe the difference between a top 6 side and a bottom 6 side is a decent centre back and a creative midfielder in this league. For all the emphasis we put on strikers, its much more important to have a midfielder (preferably winger) that can run at people, hold the ball up and create opportunities and a solid lump at the back who can put a foot in. We were very fortunate to have Gower as long as we did really, and I don't think it was a coincidence that it coincided with our rise through the leagues. There aren't many exciting, skilled creative players at this level that don't get found out after a few weeks. Lets hope Tilly and Brush can find one everyone else has overlooked...

Good call on Maher, with players such as Gower & likely Bailey heading for the door it makes me wonder where the assists are going to come from.

I have concerns about Moussa stepping up to League 1 level & he is v slightly built.
Tho to be fair he's only 18 (19 next month) & made just a few appearances to date.
OS quotes him as a 'playmaker' & says he has the potential to progress further.

Although I do seem to remember reading the same quotes about Trevor Fitzpatrick & Steve Heiffer

Reckon if he's going to become a regular 1st teamer he needs to make his mark in the coming season.

We don't have anyone left (proven and reliable, I might add), who has creativity. It's left with Maher and Gower. T, B and RM have their work cut out but they need to find decent replacements fast.

At this stage of pre-season we can't be peeing around getting in free transfer non-league rubbish.
The Chairman & TB need to look at paying money for established League players.

Unfortunately I don't expect players like that are particularly cheap...

Might he stick Walker out on the wing?

Could well do, although never been a fan of playing Strikers wide as they tend to drift in field looking for the ball.
BTW just looked on OS , didn't realise Walker was only 20 !

Anyone seen Peggy Lokando in action? Again a v young player but heard good things about him.

Was Gower ever a playmaker???

Not sure he was, a playmaker usually sits in the middle of the park and creates for the wingers...

Ronaldo is defo a playmaker at Manure, and I know he is technically a winger, but he floats all over the place.

We need someone in the middle who has vision, flair, skill, a good footballing brain, the ability to entertain the crowd and change the game in a second!

Gower had mot of this but was never consistent with it, it never all happened at the same time. He frustrated the life out of me at times, but also had me in awe with some of the sublime things he pulled off!!

Thing he is very lightweight so wouldnt want him as first choice

This question will have to be asked in the match preview on August 8th instead methinks............
