who

Meaningless?!?!?!?!?!?! first i was angry with this statement now I'm just a bit sad about it.

Where to start, firstly its the team we love playing tomorrow at the beloved home of football Roots Hall and secondly its the FA Cup.

I think we've had it so good over the last three years that we've lost some idea of who we are. Jeez, I remember some amazing FA Cups (coming back from 2 down to beat Luton 3-2 a few years ago - Tes scored at least one of them i remember). I also remember some appalling cup games (losing to Kingstonian being the biggest contender in recent years).

I love the cup and I love to watch Southend play so in terms of it being meaningless I can't agree with you there.

The FA Cup is NEVER meaningless. If you want meaningless look no further than the "Champions" League, which surely fails under the trade description act. If these clubs want a European Super League I say let them have it. It'll be the death of them and we'll all be much better off for it. They're trying to Americanise our game but franchise ownership and rich sugar daddy's ain't gonna work in a proper sport.

We could be away to a non league side somewhere in the back end of nowhere and i would still be anticipating the match just like i do a league game because its the FA cup - theres always uncertainty and stories from every round and its great to be a part of it. So in answer to your question, i'm interested, as i am sure many on here are too

im up for the cup and hows it meaningless when.

1) we make it through the first 2 rounds then maybe get a top prem side and earn good money for it.

2) with injuries/suspensions fringe players will be given needed games etc.

lets batter some northern monkeys in round one first though.

can be bothered with tomorrows game its so meaningless

Not having a dig but I'll be sad if the day comes when I can't be bothered to go and watch Southend United play.

And anyway, this is certainly no more meaningless than a pre-season friendly, or an end-of-season mid-table clash. If you look around you'll probably find me there too.

I know it's not the back end of nowhere but Aylesbury still has painful memories

I hope for your sake that you were playing Devil's Advocate, because if you weren't then its a fecking stupid thing to say.
If you were then well played, because you certainly got a reaction.

No chance to watch my team play a competitive match is ever meaningless, least of all an FA cup game with all the unpredictability that brings with it. I'll bet the Rochdale supporters don't consider it meaningless either and I expect their players will be well up for it.

Sadly I think this may be a few held by quite a lot of people, although I'm pleased to see the Shrimperzone community rising up against such a suggestion. Of the group of five season ticket holders that I am in, I will be the only one going today which means that for the first time in several years I will be going to a game on my own.

especially if you feel the need to actually start a thread about it.

Why is it meaningless? A good cup run means so much to a small club like ours.

Will you think it's meaningless if we get a plum tie against one of the Prem big-boys in the third round, with a chance to write ourselves into giant killing record books and boost our finances at the same time?

Will you think it's meaningless if we have a brilliant game of football that boosts our players in time for the next league game after the poor result that was Forest away?

No game that Southend United play in is meaningless... but your statement was as you didn't even bother to back your thoughts up with anything of substance.

Ouch ! I remember it like it was yesterday, us top of the old 4th division, them somewhere like ryman premier of its time and us going there after a week in spain to congratulate the team after their efforts against spurs etc. What happens we play like a bunch of numpties, they score in front of us and to make matters worse i saw myself on mathc of the day when they showed the goal and i'm convinced you could see the blood drain from my face in resignation as the ball hit the net ! Not that i'm still bitter about the experience
