Just managed to get hold of the programme, I use the term loosely as it is four pages in all, for the Freight Rover game v Northampton in 1986. As one of 683 who were at the game I thought I should have it in my collection. Anyway in the Northampton team was one, and this is what was printed, "Ian Bendamin". Prophetic or what as that what's most of his goals were like.

Still can't beat the Walsall programme from around 1987 who had our manager as "Dick Date" and mentioned Steve Wiggins who had broken a "log" in pre season.

Utbs.

yes the 4-4 on friday night in the fa cup with richard cadette on the score sheet still rates as my best ever game it was end to end all night and saint and grevsie had us on the box on saturday.
The replay was quality as well us losing 3-2 at northamptons old ground great memories!

When we played Scunthorpe at RH in 69, according to the prog I have, a young lad by the name of Kevin Geegan was in the starting line-up for them. I tell you, if they beat us he'd love it, love it!

yeh remember that game well and all the goals richard hill used to get for them, two great games.

Back to the original post I too was one of the 683 against northampton in the sherpa van trophy or one of its many guises think i seem to remember a frank lampard senior playing for us that night.
I also remember a great night in the same competition we was losing 4-0 against it was either Cambridge or Wrexham just before xmas one season most of us had gave up supporting the team and started making up xmas songs on the north bank.
In those days we walked across the front of the west bank at half time to stand on the old massive south bank a group of around 100 of us in the massive end couldnt believe my eyes as we gradually clawed our way back and won yes won the game 5-4. If i remember rightly this was another one of our lowest ever attendances around 1100 or 1300.
Can anyone else remember this game? This one and the northampton 4-4 the best games ever for me at the Hall.

We beat Cambridge 5-4 in the LDV and drew against Northampton 4-4, sandwiched in between was a home 0-0 against Stockport!

Yep I was also one of the 683 at the Northampton FRT game we lost 3-1 and Frank Lampard scored or goal. Funny thing about that crowd is that there was actually 2 coach loads of Northampton fans there that night so probably only about 550 Southend fans in a 35,000 capacity ground!!

For some reason SUFC database has the crowd as 1,364 for this match.

Standard practice for Vic Jobson to halve the stated crowd for the taxman, wasn't it?
