Who's impressed you this year?

Not a poll, but what players on the other team have you looked at and thought "Hmm, wouldn't mind him down here!"

Keeper wise I didn't see the Bury or Yeovil home games but was told that their keepers were very good... best one I saw was Hull's Boaz Myhill.

Kidderminster had a blinding midfielder who was the best player on the pitch... Adam Murray.

Mansfields Iyeslden Christie knows where the goal is... the inroduction of Ibehre at Orient turned the game completely in their favour, and Northamptons's Josh Lowe is bloody good.

Any others?

He was quality and i also thought that Michael McIndoe was a good player when Donny played us.

Agree about Ibhere.

Wouldn't mind Sestanovich from Scarborough, and that black guy on the wing whose name I've forgot.

Joseph from Hull, I hate him, arrogant geezer...but he's one of those players that rattles everyone and I'd like him too ( was that a contradiction? or an Oxymoron?).

Boylan? can he cut the mustard in this division, and being linked with Tilly? I doubt we could better his wage that Fat jeff is giving him though.

Come back woodman.

Clint Marcelle?

But isn't he getting on a bit now?

Yeah that's the dude, shame about the age but he run us ragged...

Liam lawrence of mansfield absoloute class!!! And 17 league goals from the wing. possibly the only winger better than gower...:;):

Agree about Bullock, difference in truth between the two sides!

Also think boyland at canvey would be a good player! Looked handy in both legs and i think well worth a look at!!

Class!

Here's for a reality check:

*Sestanovich - owned by Sheffield Utd, only ever on loan at Scarborough
*McIndoe - now a Div 2 player
*Bullock - already a Div 2 player
*Lawrence / Christie - may be Div 2 players by the end of May
*Myhill / Joseph - now Div 2 players

So, the only ones who aren't Div 2 players (or at least in the playoffs) are:

- Ibhere.  Agreed, I've always rated him; and he always seems to do well against us.  So what's he doing at Orient?!

- Boylan.  Much disagreement as to whether he could step up to league level.  I think he could, and would be a devastatingly good signing for us.  And if there's one player in the world who could poach him from Fat Jeff, it's Tilly.

However, I think it highly likely that both Ibhere and Boylan are on more money than we could offer them... so we'd do well to tempt either to Roots Hall.

As for players who impressed me... Matt Tipton at Macc Town looked pretty handy; and always a fan of Mansfield's Ginger wizard, Bobby Hassell.  Dani Rodriguez of Yeovil was bloody excellent as well.

But, of all of those, I could only really see us with a chance of getting Boylan or Tipton.

Matt

P.S. Dare I say it... the Scum have some very useful players... Pinault, Izzet and Andrews are all a cut above anything we have at Roots Hall...

Agree about Josh Low - Excellent player

Ben Burgess of Hull was awesome, certainly the best striker I saw this season (I didn't see Yeovil's Rodigues)

Dean Whitehead (Oxford) played very well against us

Others of note:
Ryan (Donny)
Murray (Kiddy)
Dawson (Hull)

P.s. The Bury keeper was Glyn Garner (I think...)

Goalkeepers-

Two goalkeepers really impressed me this season and, suprisingly, neither of them play for any promotion/play-off sides.
Matt Glennon at Carlisle was the first, a very competent shot-stopper who commanded his area well. I can't see him playing in conference next season it is very likely some-body will swoop for him.
Kevin Miller at Bristol Rovers was fantastic between the sticks. Very commanding and experienced (you could also tell that he had played at a much higher standard).

Defenders-

To be quite honest there wasn't really any defenders that really made me stand up and say 'they are really better than what we already have'. I think the partnership of Cort and Warren is one of the best in the division when they are both playing at the upper reaches of their game.

Midfielders-

Michael McIndoe has to be mentioned. A all-round quality midfielder who really can create chances. Liam Lawrence was a good player to have in the side similiar to gower, but with the ability to bag a few more goals.

Strikers-

For me Ben Burgess was one of the best strikers I have seen in recent years. Its a shame that he has damaged his liagaments and has missed the last few matches of the season. Powerful, but pacey with an eye for goal. In my view a mixture of Drewe Broughton and Lawrie Dudfield. Although his strike-partner Danny Alssopp was a dirty bugger!!

I also felt the winger (leo burtos or something similar) who played for Rochdale looked useful as well, but on the whole I think the side we currently have should really be challenging near the top of the table.

the worst player i have seen all season is sale who played for kiddy they recalled him after releasing him and he was cr*p. recently he has been sent off hes there no 2

On ability he could hack it, but what about the fitness?

That to me is the biggest difference between Div 3 and non-league - I would venture that on ability alone there are very many players in the next two levels of the pyramid that could easy perform in the Nationwide league.  However going from part to full time is a bridge too far for lots of players.  I mean, look at the players we've had... Forbes, Salter, Risbridger, Ben Smith, Holness, Belgrave, Wardley... all with ability but spent more time unfit than not.  And then there's our current crop... Bramble - on his day unquestionably capable of higher than Div 2, Gower - a Conference player... both injured or carrying injury for significant periods of the season. Both came from non-league.

So when signing a non-league player, the gamble isn't "is he good enough?" but more "can he stay fit enough?" and unfortunately the answer to that question isn't discovered for several months.

I guess we'll have to see how Bentley shapes up next year.
