BARNETBLUE
First XI
One for the statos here...
When have we EVER used quite so many players in a season, and at that one that is not yet over?I cannot remember it in my near 40 years of support.I stand to be corrected but make it 32 pros. who have been in a squad, with all but one, Johnny Herd, playing a part in a game. This of course includes all league and cup matches....That's basically 3 teams for goodness sake!!!This is usually a sign of a struggling team , where so many come and go, but whatever your take on the season so far may be, I would not call us strugglers.I see it as indicative of how much we rely on loans, and Tilsons reasonably positive approach to still trying to make the play offs.To me he seems to be saying " If this lot are not good enough we will try another lot"..Inevitably if you sign 8 in a transfer window only some will make an improvement/come good for the team.
Furthermore, I counted 13 different striking combinations at the least, and this has also served to focus us on this departments failings more.I contend that had we been goood enough to perhaps concede 25% fewer goals then we would have been comfortably in the top 4-5 and would have got more points against, Carlisle, Tranmere, Yeovil, Gillingham, Orient and Millwall et etc.
I think I have now seen enough of the not unpopular MacDonald to think he won't make it for us, despite his work rate.I sat there yesterday feeling that it was again unlikely that we would keep a clean sheet (from a set piece) against one of the divisions weaker sides and it duly arrived; in a game where we could have been out of sight by half time.Thought we were quite good first half........Hopefully we can make the play offfs,Tilly quotes 70 points as being needed, and with 42(?) to play for thats only fractionally over 50%.
PS...Why do we never cheer for "United" these days?
